[chirp_users] Old Baofeng Button
Hi, I just picked up a couple Baofeng UV5Rs to program for a friend and his wife, since they don't have a programming cable. One of them is missing the button above the PTT button, it is the one used to toggle in and out of commercial FM. Does anyone have an old broken UV5R from which you can send me the button? Thanks.
Glenn
Uv5r has two Ptt buttons. Top for channel in A and the other to ptt on the B display Below both of the ptt buttons is a fm button for commercial fm listening. The next small button is the mini to open the squelched channel.

You may be confusing the UV5R with the UV82. The 82 has a dual PTT, the 5R has only one.

Clint, You may want to check that answer:

There are many variations on the UV-5R, Glenn's radios likely match the above-linked pictures.

Maybe you are thinking of a newer UV5R. This is the older model, on the left side, there are three rubber buttons. The big one in the center is PTT, and the bottom one opens the squelch, and the top button, which is the one I need, either switches to commercial FM if tapped quickly, or does the light, or siren, depending on how the menus are set. Attached is an img file from my Baofeng UV82-L - this is an older model before the recent change dictated by the FCC.
Simple question, does anyone see why I and transmit/receive on the HAM frequencies but receive but not transmit on the GMRS freqs. I've gone over this set of freqs till I'm crosseyed and can't see any reason.
Before anyone gets upset, I'm aware of the ramifications of using this single radio for both HAM and F/GMRS. I monitor both on my scanner and reply openly to the hams (I'm KG5HEJ) but a bit more reluctantly to the GMRS folks (where I'm WQYM836) (mostly because they're moving through the area too quickly)
