[chirp_users] ATR-22/BF-888 issues
First time posting on this subscription list. I'm fairly new to radio stuff, just got a handful of ATR-22s off of Amazon by Amcrest.
I am trying to program them through the CHIRP software but to no avail. I keep getting an error message of "No response from radio"
Here's the error in the debug.log [2016-11-30 19:28:00,760] chirp.ui.mainapp - DEBUG: User selected Baofeng BF-888 on port COM3 [2016-11-30 19:28:00,792] chirp.ui.clone - DEBUG: Clone thread started [2016-11-30 19:28:00,792] chirp.drivers.h777 - DEBUG: download [2016-11-30 19:28:01,167] chirp.ui.reporting - DEBUG: Reporting exception [2016-11-30 19:28:01,167] chirp.ui.common - ERROR: -- Exception: -- [2016-11-30 19:28:01,167] chirp.ui.common - ERROR: Traceback (most recent call last): File "chirp\ui\clone.pyo", line 249, in run File "chirp\drivers\h777.pyo", line 288, in sync_in File "chirp\drivers\h777.pyo", line 187, in do_download File "chirp\drivers\h777.pyo", line 109, in _h777_enter_programming_mode RadioError: No response from radio

Would be appreciated if I could get some assistance. Thanks in advance!
I know this sounds like "make sure the appliance is plugged in and turned on", but make sure the cable is fully plugged in at both ends and turn the HT up to at least half volume so that it will communicate with the computer. Need to start with the most simple things first.

My questions are..
Is the programming cable working (compatible device driver installed in the case of a Prolific type chip)?
How do you know the ATR-22 is the same as a BF-888 (have you programmed it with the Baofeng software)?
Jim KC9HI
The AR-22 manual has a link to Baofeng. The BF site lists a line of Amcrest HT's. AR-22 $19.99! https://baofengradio.us/walkie-talkies.html

Oops! ATR-22 BTW, even though the advertising says "PC Programmable" I couldn't find anything in the manual about programing. The web page says Call Amcrest (888) 212-7538 https://amcrest.com/contact-us/

That is not Baofeng's (the radio manufacturer in China) website. It is the website of a dealer in the USA similar to baofengtech.com which is also a dealer in the USA. Neither are Baofeng and, unfortunately, are mistaken to be Baofeng.
The Baofeng website is: http://www.baofengradio.com/
So again, does the AT-22 program OK with the Baofeng BF-888 software? If it doesn't, then there should be no expectation for CHIRP to do it with the BF-888 selection. If it does, then we can try to figure out why.

I don't own any of those radios, but this video suggests the Amcrest ATR-22 is compatible with the BF-888 and can be programmed with Chirp:

Andrew.
Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for. Then the issue is most likely an incompatible device driver which is common when using a programming cable containing a counterfeit Prolific type chips and Windows.
