I have programming software for my various amateur radio equipment as well as specific Motorola software. I was directed here because I need to drop the frequency range on a cdm1550 by 2 MHz all the top of the bottom. From what I have read There is a waris.py file somewhere available for download did enables chirp to work with a Motorola? I am confused on the matter. I've read the offsets that need to be changed with a hex editor and if that's all I need to do then I suppose that will work. On the other hand, I'd love to support chirp financially if it can handle all of my various pieces of equipment from one piece of software. Or am I misunderstanding that I still need my RSS software or CPS software?

It's not just editing some hex values, but also retuning the radio.
Chirp has a lot of features, and not all of them are supported by every radio. The waris.py implements some fields in the Settings pane of Chirp, but doesn't implement Memory channel read/write. I don't think this is an issue of funding, but rather of finding the intersection of people who have the expertise to add this support, the hardware, and the time. I only meet two out of three of those criteria myself. You'll still need CPS for channel programming.

Thank you for the reply. I have the CPS software so that's not an issue. I have known that one could hex edit but nobody would ever tell me exactly where. They would tell me go find out. Or go read some obscure document. The irony is I am a programmer and I know how to use a hex editor. It's amazing and frustrating at the same time that people know how to do it but don't want to openly share it. They might be afraid that I work for Motorola or something I don't know.
I was told that chirp was capable of dropping what was referred to as the "peer" down on both ends. As a extra class I say humbly with my Sheriff years I've never heard it referred to as that. I'm always heard it referred to as a frequency. LOL.
I bought a high split UHF XTS 3000 after being told it was "easy" to drop it down to 439 where I needed it. It would also allow me to listen to LA County Fire and LAPD. I don't need to transmit to either one of them. But I was told it was easy. Then nobody would tell me how to do it. LOL. It's not easy to me. So now I'm going to next XTS 3000 sitting on the shelf doing nothing.
Now I've got a couple of low band cdm's and CHP starts at 39 MHz. The split is 42 MHz - 50 MHz. I did read the W9CR and it made it look like there were only two spots are needed to change to change the split. But I was specifically referred here again because apparently where is plugs into chirp somehow.
