In the UV 82L, when adding frequencies that have four to five digits to the right of the decimal point how do you get the last one or two digits in there?
Are you talking about the radio keypad or programming software?
If you mean using the keypad then 1. Make sure you have Menu 1 STEP set to the correct value. 2. Enter the first 6 digits then use the up/down arrows to select the last ones.

You just type it into the Frequency cell of the memory spreadsheet editor.
If you are talking about entering the frequency into the VFO using the keypad (which has nothing to do with CHIRP), you do the following:
1 set menu 1 (STEP) to a value that is compatible with the frequency that you want to enter 2 key in the 1st 6 digits of the frequency 3 press the [^] up arrow key once
For example if you want to listen to FRS channel, 462.5625 MHz
1 Set STEP to 2.5KHZ, 6.25KHZ or 12.5KHZ 2 Key in 462562 (after entering the last 2, the frequency will be rounded off to the 1st STEP compatible frequency below the desired frequency) 3 Press the [^] up arrow key once (the display will read "462.562" followed by a very small 5)

Just found another problem. I enter a frequency a ct tone and an offset and save to a channel. This is in the VFO of Courts. then I go to channel mode and pull up that channel and find that the CT tone and the offset have not carried over. It is acting like a simplex frequency. did I do something wrong or miss something? On Nov 5, 2015 11:28 AM, "Gary Runningbear" runningbear2000@gmail.com wrote:

If you program a frequency, offset, and code into the radio with chirp and the radio is in chanel mode, it will not show that info in the menu mode. Basically for offset and codes, if you change them in menu mode it will only affect the frequency mode.

Gary, When you update a Channel manually, you need to delete the prior channel data, menu 28. Then program the new channel data and save with menu 27.
You cannot simply override any existing channel.

In the UV 82L, when adding frequencies that have four to five digits to the right of the decimal point how do you get the last one or two digits in there?

These radios don't use "offsets" in their memory channels. So there are none to "carry over".
CHIRP allows you to enter the channel data using RX frequency, shift direction and frequency offset, but it converts it to RX frequency and TX frequency and send that to the radio because that is what the radio requires.

Thanks John, I was unaware that you could not override the previous data. I'll start erasing and then saving and see if that helps things. Thank you very much for the information. On Nov 5, 2015 6:54 PM, "Jim Unroe" rock.unroe@gmail.com wrote:

Greetings, all, You guys are such a constructive addition to these almost-free radios !! I'm getting answers before I even have questions !! By the way, I had a failure to download to my VV-898, but solved the problem by shutting down CHIRP and restarting it. It's one of two basic and universal computer solutions: 1. Plug it in. 2. Reboot.
