[chirp_users] Newbie question.
I am very new to this program and am using Linux Mint. Could some one advise me how to set up the comm port? I tried to set up dialout with my user name but for some reason, didn't take
Thanks Clayton K4QM
Make sure you log and and log back in after making the change. Changes to Linux groups don't get applied until you log in.

Since I had no success with the IC-T70A and MacOS, I turned to my Raspberry PI 3 with Raspbian. I had to issue the permissions commands under: https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Running_Under_Linux
I ended up just downloading the current tar file. Just in case you have the same issue, the Raspbian python gtk package is called pygtk2. Good luck. On Thu, Oct 4, 2018 at 12:31 PM Aubrey Turner aubrey.c.turner@gmail.com wrote:

I can't figure out why folks use the comm ports. I've always used the USB at the bottom of the list. I use Ubuntu mate. The radios are typically serial (comm). I think that’s why you see “comm ports” discussed. I don’t think anyone is using a comm port on the computer. There’s hardware in the cables to interface usb to serial. On Thu, Oct 4, 2018 at 5:31 PM Clayton Brantley clayton_k4qm@sc.rr.com wrote:
That makes sense. I am used to comm ports from the early days and running a packet bbs. Remember W0RLI and the old Xerox ,820 boards? _______________________________________________ chirp_users mailing list chirp_users@intrepid.danplanet.com http://intrepid.danplanet.com/mailman/listinfo/chirp_users This message was sent to frankB at thereur@gmail.com To unsubscribe, send an email to chirp_users-unsubscribe@intrepid.danplanet.com
