[chirp_users] Kenwood TK-760H Radio Refuse...
Hello,
New member/user, so apologies if I'm missing something mundane...
I am trying to program a Kenwood TK-760H with Chirp. I am using a Prolific USB to 6pin cable that is supposedly designed for this radio (and similar).
When I try to download from the radio it appears to partially work. The display on the radio changes to "- PC -" and shows the PC connection icon in the top left.
However, after a few seconds I get the error message "Radio refuse to enter into program mode after a few tries".
Of course, I never get the configuration from the radio.
Ideas?
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,
According to the Supported Radio Models list on the CHIRP home page, CHIRP supports Kenwood TK-760 and TK-760G models. There is no mention of supporting a TK-760H model. I would suspect that CHIRP is unaware about that particular model's requirements for initiating the cloning process.

Thanks for the response.
From all I read, the TK-760 and the TK-760H are identical except for power output. Screenshots from the OEM Kenwood programming software (unfortunately DOS only ) also shows the same selection for the TK-760 and 760H. See attached.
Of course, I've been selecting TK-760 in Chirp. But, I also tried 760G for grins.
Thanks Again,
Mike

And because of its different power levels, it identifies itself to the software differently than either the TK-760 and TK-760G. CHIRP doesn't recognize TK-760H because it hasn't been programmed to recognize it yet.

Create a clean debug.log file (Close CHIRP, open CHIRP, attempt a download to cause the error, close CHIRP) and then attach the debug.log file to a reply. Maybe what the TK760H is replying with is being captured in the debug.log and possibly that can be used to "teach" CHIRP how to recognize your radio.
Thanks Again, Mike

Thanks Jim.
I have attached the debug log.

Mike,
There was no response from your radio. Try the same thing with the "G" selection.
Jim
OK...
Last night I got the OEM Kenwood programming software running using DOSBOX and it worked great with both radios (I have 2). Of course, I would still like to get Chirp working. But, this proves that the programming cable and radios are working correctly.
I have attached 2 additional debug logs. One using the TK-760G profile in Chirp and one using the TK-762 profile.
The 760G profile seemed to do even less than the 760 profile as it didn't even put the radio in programming mode.
The 762 profile appears to have behaved exactly as the 760 profile did - radio goes into programming mode but Chirp errors out.

Unfortunately, neither debug.log file has captured any response from the radio. It is probably going to take capturing the serial port communications during the cloning process.
Jim
If there is a free and easy to use tool that I could use to capture that info while using the OEM software, I’d be glad to do so.

If the radio's not responding, then there's no data to capture so no tool needed.

The radio is responding to the DOS based factory programming software. That is serial transfer that needs to be captured.
Jim KC9HI
OK. Misunderstood.
