[chirp_users] DMR CHIRP suggestions
Want to purchase a DMR radio that is supported by CHIRP. All my machines run OS X, so most OEM programming apps will not work.
So I’m basically looking for CHIRP supported DMR handheld suggestions.
Thanks! .\
Michael, Check out http://www.miklor.com/DMR/ . Also https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home . That will show you a list of supported radios. It is my understanding that no DMR radios are supported in Chirp because of their design. The Miklor site has info on programming the DMR radios. Hope this helps...
Be blessed! May this be our year of change and growth!

The underlying issue here is that Chirp has a common user interface for putting conventional channels into a large set of radios. But the goal of DMR is not to program a set of conventional channels, but to make a list of talkgroups and assign those to channels. Fundamentally, this is very different from what Chirp can do now, so adding support for a DMR radio would be a large project, and no one has volunteered for that work.

There are NO DMR radios supported by Chirp.

Yes, the config for DMR is so fundamentally different from most of the radios CHIRP supports that it would pretty much have to be completely different software.

I use EditCP on some of my radios (TYT radios) it is written by Dale Farnsworth, you can go to his page. He makes mention to Chirp in his documentation. It is very good much tighter than most of the CPS you get with your radios. Here is the web page:
https://www.farnsworth.org/dale/codeplug/editcp/
Someone some day I hope will wake up and build a radio or a programming interface that looks at things the way we do in hamdom. I.e. you select a channel pair, it has the frequency CC and if both slots are in use. Then you map talk groups to that channel pair rather than the present method which for commercial usage makes sense. For us hams we should not have to over and over add the same repeater data for each and every talk group. But until that day I guess we are saddled with that weirdness.
Best Regards...
