[chirp_users] Baofeng GT-5TP
Hello All,
I've read on a few amazon reviews that the Baofeng GT-5TP can be programmed using chirp using the UV-82HP setting. I can not get the radio to work with any of the Baofeng radio drop downs. I did download the actual Baofeng software and that works, and also works fine with my Anytone so it isn't a cord issue. Any thoughts on how to get chirp to communicate with the radio? The GT-5TP has version N82303 using the holding 3 button and turning on the radio.

Todd,
This is most likely a cable problem. I'll bet you get the "radio does not respond" error. Try downloading with the cable not plugged into the radio and you will get the same error. The 2-pin plug is not fully inserted into the socket.
The GT-3 and GT-5 cases have a ridge around the top of the speaker/mic socket well that interferes with the angled plug and keeps it from being fully inserted. See the section regarding the GT-3 on this page: http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_ErrorMess.php#error1
Hopefully this will solve your issue.

Jim.
The weird thing is that the Baofeng software will upload and download just fine. On trying to read the radio using chirp the radio turns green for 1 second and then i get the error: Failed to communicate with radio: Local variable 'response' references before response.

OK. If you mentioned that earlier, I missed it. Sorry.
Something else must be the issue. Please attach a clean debug.log file.

Only thing I've learned is to Press the programming Cable into the radio REALLY HARD !!!!!

Dave, I have a cable that does the same thing when plugging into my 5R and F8HP, so I took my knife and slightly shave just to the inside of the 'angle' so that it snapped into the radio better because I worried I would bend or snap the pins if I pushed too hard each time. Just a tip!

Yeah, this seems to be quite a common occurrence with Chinese radios using the kenwood-type connector. It caused me trouble so many times :) Simply make sure that both parts are deep enough, often you'll have to cut off a bit of plastic from the radio casing.

It isn't a problem with the programming cable. It was a bug in yesterday's daily build. Today's daily build addresses that bug so Dave's GT-5TP (or any other model affected by the bug) should program fine after today's daily build is installed.
