[chirp_users] Prolific chip an USB3
My old system died so now I have a new win7 pro machine with all USB3 ports. I cant read from either Baofeng or wouxun rigs. My old system was win7 home with USB2 and another running Vista with USB2. Am using the same prolific cord that worked perfectly on the old systems. I have installed the 3.2.0 driver, device manager tell me it is working properly and to use port 3. When attempting to connect to the radio it tells me there was an error and it cant be found. My USB3, USB2, and USB1 devices work OK when inserted into the USB# ports. Only thing that does not work is when connecting to the two rigs mentioned above.. Any ideas????

What is the Exact error message?
John

Hi Jim,
It sounds to me like you may be selecting the wrong com port. It is most likely different from what it was before. Look in device manager to see which port is being assigned to your programming cable.

No, it tells me to use port 3. I also tried several others just to see what would happen. I tried changing the bit rate and always got negative results. One of these days I'll try loading the factory program for the Wouxun, if it works it might prove a point of some kind. Other than that I can always use the Vista machine, it uses port 6 and always works FB.
Thanks for the thoughts Jim, I appreciate it..

In the device manager, what port does the computer say is being assigned to the device (USB/Serial adaptor)? (the USB/Serial adaptor is often built in to the cable, forming one link in a small chain of devices).
Irrespective of my question, it does appear at this stage to be an incorrectly installed driver, OR a counterfeit cable or IC in the cable. If this is the case you need to clean the old drivers off your PC, and use older drivers, and prevent M$ updates from installing newer drivers. This is your very best option in this situation. Usually, but not always, the drivers in this situation are often flagged with a yellow or even a red triangle but even then it's not always marked this way.
It's also possible comm port 3 is being used by something else and you need to change the port number the comm port uses in the device manager as suggested already.
I suspect the drivers are not correctly installed. Try cleaning the old drivers off, and then try these, starting with the old one set first, http://www.wouxun.com/down_01.asp?SortID=10&SortPath=0,10,
