[chirp_users] help programming public safety information
i am kevin, i have both a ham radio callsign n0ukm and a public safety callsign for part 90 operations.
i am using a baofeng uv-5r radio that has bfb297 firmware.
version of chirp that i am using is: chirp daily-20130216
what i am needing to do is this: program only a transmit tone and it does not matter if it is ctcss or dcs. the agencies i work with do not require a receive tone. only a transmit tone is needed.
what do i need to do with the chirp programming software that allows me to do that.
this is the first time for me programming this radio with the chirp software with both public safety simplex and repeater/ham radio simplex and repeater.
can someone please help and if i need to clarify something let me know
thanks

Set the Tone Mode column to Tone.

done. what about the cross mode column. it is set to tone->tone
tone->tone according to the chirp programming reference guide made by kc9hi which is posted to the link that i am including http://kc9hi.dyndns.org/uv5r/programming/CHIRP%20Guide.pdf
well anyways on page two of this programming guide it has listed for the tone->tone description/comment: The radio will use CTCSS for transmit and a different CTCSS for receive
that description/comment is what is confusing. so what should be the setting for the cross mode if i only want a transmit ctcss tone and no receive tone.

Hi Kevin (aka Doc),
CHIRP has lots of columns. And many of the columns have default values. However, a value in a column does not necessarily indicate that it is being utilized.
If you look (in the guide) at the "requires" column for Cross Mode, you will see Tone Mode=Cross. So without Tone Mode set to Cross, the Cross Mode setting is ignored. The columns Tone, ToneSql, DTCS Code and DTCS Rx Code all require a Tone Mode setting or Cross Mode setting (which requires Tone Mode=Cross) in order for one (or some combination of two) of them to be utilized.
To transmit a CTCSS tone only (no RX tone) set the following (N/A = not used, leave default) Tone Mode = Tone Tone = {desired CTCSS tone frequency} ToneSql = N/A DTCS Code = N/A DTCS Rx Code = N/A Cross Mode = N/A
To transmit a DCS code only (no RX code) set the following (N/A = not used, leave default) Tone Mode = Cross Tone = N/A ToneSql = N/A DTCS Code = {desired DCS code} DTCS Rx Code = N/A Cross Mode = DTCS->
