[chirp_users] Strange Situation
I have the TYT TH-UV5R. When I use Chirp software to program the radio the radio connects to the computer and when I try to upload from the radio to the computer the light on the radio flashes and appears to upload the data to the program. I see where there is a tab showing the TYT upload but nothing shows (no radio frequency contents) in the program and I don't see the data in any program folder.
Can someone kindly point me in the right direction in order to use Chirp.
thank you kindly
Paul

Paul,
You "download" to transfer data from the radio to the computer. You "upload" to transfer data from the computer to the radio.
You can not use File -> New to start the programming for your radio. CHIRP won't know what radio it is for and therefore has no idea what features are available. You must download from the radio first to get a template that is compatible with your radio.
But in your case, you can't because it doesn't look the the TYT TH-UV5R is a supported radio. I may not be looking in the right place, but I can't find evidence that there is a TYT TH-UV5R.

I've never heard of that radio. I own 5 Chinese radios. That radio is likely a Baofeng UV5R copy or clone unless someone can prove otherwise. Or counterfeit. The owner might try to download from the radio using the Baofeng UV5R profile and see what happens. But I wouldn't write anything to the radio until it's know what exactly it is or the owner could end up bricked. And what about the factory software if any that came with the radio?
Just my thought, Milt.

My error gentlemen. Should have shown the radio as TYT-TH3R which is in the drop down box of the program. As mentioned previously .. When I download from the radio to the computer all appears well as the radio connects to the computer, the light flashes on the radio when transferring data. However the contents of the radio do no show on the "grid" display. The display shows blank frequencies. There is a tab that shows on that screen something was downloaded but I seem to be unable to figure out where. I am obviously doing something wrong.

My suggestion now would be to provide us with a debug.log after the download. It might give some insight as to what is happening (or not happening).

Hi Jim
Have you heard or have you personal experience of the Baofeng UV5XX clipping the FM signal or distorting in FM broadcast mode?
I still say your truly deserve an award for the "online" service you have and continue to provide to all of us.

Mine clips. And then if a channel becomes active besides the FM channel you are listening to, when the channels then stops being active the UV5x does a swoosh swoosh swoosh from the rx audio. You can get rid of that by pressing the FM button twice. Also you can stop the distortion by going off channel then back using the channel encoder knob or up/down buttons. This will clean the audio up but it will eventually return to being distorted. So you just repeat the process.

Mine does misbehave after it's been on a while. Seems to be fairly normal.... not sure if it's a firmware thing or if the RDA5802 FM chip is just goofy :)

Jim,
Sorry to have to ask this here, but the chirp website isn't helpful on this point; I have several BF-666S radios that I would like to be able to program with CHIRP, and would like to know who to send one to so the reverse engineering can be done.

Mathew, I'm not positive, but I believe that the BF-666S and BF-777S models can be programmed using the CHIRP BF-888 driver. Use it to see if CHIRP will download from your radio and then report back. Jim KC9HI
