[chirp_users] Baofeng GT-5TP
Hi all, I have done a search regarding support for the Baofeng GT-5TP as I didn’t find it in the list when connecting to it.
I recently got a couple as I have had UV-5R’s and wanted new less beaten up handhelds.
CHIRP doesn’t like them when selecting other model numbers, the results range from just timing out/reporting wrong model/ reporting too much data.
The CHIRP Site says to use “UV-82HP” It errors out with “Incorrect ‘Model’ selected” (on version “daily-20171104”)
I have been able to use the extremely hokey application from Baofeng called “UV82 Series Program Software.( US2S35 VIP Version)”
The details of firmware I can find when turning on are: (“3” when turning on) Ver N82301 (“5” when turning on) 160408N
Any suggestions/updates appreciated.
If there is any steps I can provide or give report access to my pc with the radio attached please let me know.
I don’t model making international calls either.

Load CHIRP. Download from radio to cause the error. Close CHIRP. Attach the debug.log file. How to locate the debug.log file is on the "How to report issues" page.

The problem is that he radio is answering to the UV-82HP clone request as it should but then it responds back to CHIRP claiming to be a UV-5R type radio.
Jim
Attn:Jim,
So I tried to download selecting UV-5R and it times out.
Attached is the new debug.
Thank you
Malcolm

Which would be expected. The UV-5R selection doesn't send the "magic" string that the radio needs to see to initiate cloning.

I have a quick question about my UV-5RA. I know many people on the list use this radio so this is the reason I am asking. I can not get it to turn on. I have tried a brand new charged batter and nothing. Any ideas. Thanks for your help. David
I read with a previous Boafeng model, the UV 3R, that if you hold down the U/V button on start-up, it will reset it. Someone else suggested holding down the monitor key while powering on. Also, holding down the button below the zero key locks/unlocks it. HTH. If a fresh charged battery does not work you might consider something is wrong with the switch and return it for repair
