Wayne,
You're exactly right.
ICOM IC-80AD is right on the top of ICOM list of supported radios and it's not listed.
However, there is DETECT position in CHIRP.
Have you tried this?

I can also confirm that the IC-80AD doesn't show up in the Chirp: Radio --> "Download from Radio" list (using the 07/30/17 Linux daily). I just tried the auto-detect option but when I tell Chirp to download from the radio (correct serial port, FTDI based cable that's worked on in the past, etc), I'm only getting the following regardless if the radio is sitting in clone mode, I try to initiate clone from the radio then tell Chirp to start, etc.
-- ERROR: --- Exception Dialog: Out of sync with radio --- ERROR: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/archive/Chirp/chirp-hg-c56244c58fe8/chirp/ui/clone.py", line 175, in run cs.radio_class = detect.DETECT_FUNCTIONS[vendor](cs.port) File "/home/archive/Chirp/chirp-hg-c56244c58fe8/chirp/detect.py", line 76, in detect_icom_radio result = _detect_icom_radio(ser) File "/home/archive/Chirp/chirp-hg-c56244c58fe8/chirp/detect.py", line 43, in _detect_icom_radio md = icf.get_model_data(ser) File "/home/archive/Chirp/chirp-hg-c56244c58fe8/chirp/drivers/icf.py", line 142, in get_model_data frames = stream.get_frames() File "/home/archive/Chirp/chirp-hg-c56244c58fe8/chirp/drivers/icf.py", line 134, in get_frames return self._process_frames() File "/home/archive/Chirp/chirp-hg-c56244c58fe8/chirp/drivers/icf.py", line 88, in _process_frames raise errors.InvalidDataError("Out of sync with radio") InvalidDataError: Out of sync with radio --
I would assume that once I tell Chirp to start downloading, it would sit there for a while, waiting for me to hit the PTT button on the radio to start sending it's data. What seems to be happening is that Chirp is not waiting and almost instantly errors out. This used to work though I'll admit it's been some time since I've programed this radio.
