[chirp_users] Baofeng UV-5R+Upload Error
Model: Baofeng UV-5R+
Firmware: BFB297
Driver: Prolilfic 3.2.0.0
Operating System: Windows 7 Service Pack 1
Chirp: Daily Build 20121222
I just purchased the UV-5R+ and tried to connect it up to Chirp. Got through the driver installation and Chirp software install thanks to the documentation provided on MIKLOR.
I am able to Download the radio parameters into Chirp fine - the "Cloning" window pops up and everything appears to show fine. However after making a frequency change to one channel and trying to Upload the changes back to the radio, I get the message: "Unsupported Firmware Version BFB301 BFB297". This happens right after the "Cloning" window pops up.
Since there are so many variables to analyze for potential problems, I downloaded the Baofeng VIP software version: V120725 and tried the same scenario - everything seems to work fine there - Download/Upload.
Is Firmware Version BFB297 supported yet by CHIRP?
Thanks,
Doug
Doug, Use the 0.3.0 stable release or latest daily build and you should be good. Jim KC9HI On Feb 20, 2013 12:18 PM, "Doug Gilbert" dougandsharon@tampabay.rr.com wrote:

Thanks for the reply.
The only release I seem to be able to get to off the site is: chirp-daily-20121222-installer.exe. Are there other versions in other locations?

Jim,
That did it - With that CHIRP 0.3.0 version, I am able to Upload/Download my UV-5R+ channels.
The other link I used was the one contained on http://miklor-uv5r.99k.org/UV5R-CHIRP.html and was the one recommended. Someone might want to correct that link for other UV-5R+ owners. It will save them mucho trouble and discouragement.
After looking at both VIP and CHIRP, I'd rather use CHIRP - it's much more complete and seems to work better.
Thanks for the assist. 73's

I'll be testing the Baofeng F-11 Friday when I get it from Ed Griffin. He sends me samples to test out on my service monitors and spectrum analyzer so he can give the factory input on any problems that might be encounters so the radio does not go into production before these problems are corrected. I happened to purchase this F-11and am curious to see how it works with the daily build for Mac OSX. It works good with the Wouxun UV6D and the Baofeng will use the same cable.

Doug,
Yep. Thanks for being so detailed with your initial post. It made it easy to diagnose the issue.
The way I see it, the folks at Baofeng, with the last few releases, has been putting the firmware version in the wrong line of the 3+Power-on message.
The format used to be like this " Ver " "BFB297 "
Then when BFB299 came out they looked like this "BFB299 " "BFB297 " The " Ver " was overwritten and the previous "BFB297 " survived. To me this appears to be an accidental mistake on Baofeng's part. CHIRP was updated to deal with this change a few days before v0.3.0 stable was released.
And now you have "BFB301 " "BFB297 "
Would you do me a favor? First, save your settings to a file so that they can be restored. Then perform a menu 40 reset on your UV-5R. After the reset, download from your UV-5R and save the data to an .img file with a different name than what you used before (ResetFileFromDougForJim.img or similar) and email it to me ( uv5r@kc9hi.net ). Then you can restore you settings using the file that you save earlier.
Thanks in advance.

I'm a newbie at this... Just got the 5r+ and just passed my Technician's Exam, so let's make sure what you'd like me to do. 1. Using Chirp I'll do a Save of my current channel/freq assignments to an .img file. 2. Do the 5R+ Menu 40 Reset. All assignments will be erased. 3. Using Chirp, I'll do a Save of the empty channel/freqs to a new .img file. 4. Email you the Step 3 .img file. 5. Restore the Step 1 .img file to the 5R+
Question: If the Step 3 file has empty channel/freqs, will this help you?? Thanks.

Doug, Those steps look perfect. Yes. Empty is what I want. This will let me determine what the default values are for your firmware version. I will compare them to earlier firmware versions to see if any have been changed.
Once again, thanks in advance. Jim

Since there are so many variables to analyze for potential problems, I downloaded the Baofeng VIP software version: V120725 and tried the same scenario - everything seems to work fine there - Download/Upload.
Is Firmware Version BFB297 supported yet by CHIRP?
