[chirp_users] Regarding Android (Don't hit me)
I know that the present developers are not working with Andriod as it is quite a bit of work and changes to the code, but I did see someone or some comments to the effect that someone maybe picking it up, as a fork or a separate solution.
I no longer carry a laptop, I use a tablet for all of my travel work, the only reason I would carry a laptop is to program my radio. But with the airlines charging for everything now, you have to measure what you carry.
If someone is working on a Android version I would like to see if there is anyway I can help, more than anything else perhaps doing testing. I have a IC=92 that I can test on.
You can put Linux on your tablet.

I have thought about it, but this is my work machine and I do not want to break something on it. I may try a RPI out but that is one more box though small box. On Sep 3, 2014 11:02 PM, "D.J.J. Ring, Jr." n1ea@arrl.net wrote:

I think the number one issue has always been that most tablets do not have serial or USB ports available for plugging in a radio. Although, some have USB-OTG. Of those that have USB-OTG, very few (none, that I've encountered) have a version of the Linux kernel that includes the standard USB to serial cable drivers. (These are standard on desktop version of Linux like Ubuntu.)
Once you solve the hardware issues, the next issue is of course developer interest.
I don't know of anyone working on an Android version, but I suppose replies here will tell.

Now just wire everything together and you'll be programming a radio!

Strange, USB2RS232 is indeed not supported. That explains why lots of projects use bluetooth serial interfaces.

Trying to catch up started out in Kelso, wa 3 days ago, hit kansas city, did a job yesterday, drove to okc , now in dallas finishing up a job, back to portland, and home to kelso, wa. Then off to Maui for another job, so that is why I am hoping for something, I am going to have to learn to code so when I am setting in a hotel room I can help a bit. I can loan someone a samsung tab 10.1 with android 4.2.2 on it.
I was looking at using the bluetooth usb and setting the radio end up to take power from the radio, the ic92 has power on the mic/spkr/gps/data connector so should use it.
My other option maybe to carry a raspberry pi and use the tablet as the terminal, still one more box to carry and power. On Sep 4, 2014 2:34 PM, "YT9TP Pedja" yt9tp@uzice.net wrote:
