[chirp_users] Programming Baofeng GT3 - Mk11
Hi all, I’m new to this group - so I hope I’m in the correct forum🤡I’m trying to program a GT3 mk2 on chirp without any luck. The program is not recognising the radio under uvb5. It does recognise 2 other radios I have. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Ken

I believe that the Mode: UV-B5 shown on the Supported Radio Models list is incorrect. I would recommend that you try the Model: UV-5R and report back. If it works for you, I will update the list.

Hey Jim, thanks very much for your speedy reply. As suggested I’ve tried uv5r but receive a message advising’an error has occurred - radio did not respond’. Cheers Ken

Hi Ken,
This is most likely due to the 2-pin plug not being fully inserted in the socket. The case design of the GT-3 series radios has a ridge that runs around the socket well. The plastic shell contacts this ridge before the pins are fully inserted. A workaround for this is to trim some plastic off of the shell to reduce/eliminate the interference.
See this page (scroll down to GT-3) for more information. https://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_ErrorMess.php#error1

Thanks Jim, I have programmed a gt3tp that has the same case.. I don’t believe that is the issue.

If you leave the cable unplugged from your radio and try to program it, you will receive the same error. It is 99% likely to be a cabling issue of some sort. I'm going to update the Supporte Radio Models list because it is definitely not correct.
Jim
Hey Jim, would it be a fair assumption that if the cable and chirp program works for my gt3tp and uv5r it should be ok for the GT3 mk11?

Yes. Try pressing on the plug a little during the cloning process.
Jim
Have tried wiggling, etc without success .. do you know if this program is better suited to PC or Mac?

Thanks for that - Silly question... is there any particular setting in the radio menu that needs to be activated?

No. The radio just needs to be powered on. (really, I had someone the other day that said they couldn't get CHIRP to work with their radio. It turned out that they were trying to program the radio with it powered off.)
Jim
That’s what I figured... I’ve had no issues with my other 2 - just the GT3

Hey Jim, I tried a different cable, lo & behold it worked!!! Weird that the other cable only worked for the gt3tp & uv5r. Anyway, problem sorted- thanks for your assistance. Cheers Ken

Possibly something to do with the pin length. Either the pins of the original plug are ever so slightly too long or ever so slightly too short to make the GT-3 MK II happy.
In any case, I am happy to see you have it sorted out. Have fun with your radio.

I mainly use Windows (7 and 10). But I have Linux and macOS available to me. The all work fine for me. I just prefer Windows because that is my main desktop and my CHIRP development computer.
Try the "factory" programming software. If it doesn't work, it is a programming cable connection issue. If it works, it could be a CHIRP issue.
