I understand that the GPS has to be turned off to use Chirp. However I can not figure out if it is on or off or how to turn it off. Anyone here have the ICOM 92AD? I have looked through the User Manual and it does not say anything about turning the GPS on or off.
Thanks

Hmm, I'm not sure that you do, actually. However, if you switch to an FM-only channel in single band mode, that implies that it's off. However, you can go in and change "GPS TX MODE" to off and that will do it also.
Make sure you're using the latest daily build of chirp. There have been a lot of fixes for that radio since 0.1.12.
I downloaded the latest build and when I click the box for the brand of radio it is BLANK. The only radio listed is the Alco or what ever it is called. I was not having any problem with the original version without any of the new builds. I had a problem at first and someone told me to turn the GPS off and when I did it worked. Now I have nothing. The daily build seems to be missing a lot. I am running Vista. So where did the list of radios go?
Thanks James

Yes, I am using Vista. I had not had any problems with the original version but now I can't get anything to work. When I first tried to use Chirp I could not get it to work with my Radio. I had ask some on ICOM User Groups and was told to turn the GPS off. When I did it worked great. I downloaded the Radio's information and was attempting to put the repeaters in some sort of order (which was a few months later) and when I tried to get the program to download the radio again so I could save it in case something went wrong it said it could not find the radio id. So I was trying to find out if my GPS was turned on and was going to turn it off so that I could use Chirp to program my radio. However I only have the top of the list radio showing with the current build and when I uninstall it and go back to the version I had it has all the brands of radios but will not find my particular radio. Which is why I said that someone had told me to turn the GPS off and it would work. I hope I have told you everything.
Thank You James KD0AJZ

Yep, I understand all that. I'm telling you that there were some known issues in the current release with your radio. I'm also trying to determine why you are only seeing alinco radios in the current build. If you can help with the data collection then hopefully we can get your issue worked out.
Can you send me a screenshot of your download box that only shows some brands?
Also, can you please send me your debug.log file? Instructions on how to do that are:
1. Go to start->run 2. Type %APPDATA%\CHIRP and click OK 3. Copy the debug.log file somewhere and attach it to your email
I deleted the program.

I just fired up my Windows 7 VM and I see the same thing you do. However, I think that if you just move your mouse down into the blank area of the drop-down box, you will see the other vendors appear.
I have no idea why Windows 7 is not properly painting that box, because the other versions do. I'll look into that. However, I think that if you move your mouse pointer down, you'll be able to choose Icom and be on your way...
Did what you said and BINGO. It is working now. .Thanks for all your help. Did not mean to take you away from your weekend.
Thanks Again. By The Way. I love your Program. It has made programing my radio so much easier I can not even begin to tell you. Thanks and I am looking forward to all the great stuff you have going.

Glad to hear it :)
Now I've gotta figure out why Windows 7 is being such a problem child.
Can anyone else on the list confirm this behavior in Windows 7, and does it happen in Vista as well?
Thanks!
Just wanted you to know that I am running Vista. And now I can't get it to work again.
Plus I wanted to know something. If you do all your editing in a CSV file can you use that to program the radio? I did a lot of work in the CSV file from the Chrip program and it does not show any of the corrections that I made? Thanks

Oh, okay, then that answers my question, since I'm seeing the behavior in Windows 7.
And now I can't get it to work again.
...can't get what to work? The list of radio vendors?

I'm not sure what you're trying to say exactly. If you export your radio to a CSV file, then edit the CSV, yes you can bring the changes back into your radio. Just go to Radio -> Download, then once it comes up, go to File -> Import and choose your CSV file. It will take you through the process of importing your changes.
Chirp works fine with my IC-92AD under Fedora 16 Linux with the latest daily build. I do have to make sure it's on a quiet channel. Anything that makes the radio spit out low speed data causes chirp to fail detecting the radio. That includes GPS, low speed data and (in my case) RFI from my laptop.
I loaded up the latest daily on Windows 7. I see the same issue with menus not being populated until you scroll over them with the mouse as James is seeing with Vista. It also happens with the data windows. They appear to be blank after reading the radio until you move over them with the mouse. A gtk issue in Windows?

Yeah, it seems to be GTK versions at least >= 2.22, but the old version I was using with Python 2.5 was working fine. That version is not supported in 2.7, so I may have to build a 2.6 environment just so I can run a suitably old version of gtk. Argh.
Installed new build (todays) and while it was getting the channels from the radio I got this messages.
Thanks James

The message is half cut off on the right side in my PDF viewer, so I can't see what it's saying. However, I see that it's complaining about the C++ runtime, which I don't interact with directly.
If you try it a couple times, do you get the same thing each time?
I'm able to connect to my 92AD and download it entirely successfully from Windows 7 with today's build...
Second time around it worked just fine. Everything was in the menu boxes and it exported without any problems. In fact it was a little smoother than before. I think I might have caused it to give that error. It closed down and when I started it back up it read the radio with no problem at all. I did have to turn the GPS off. Which I do not understand. But I did and it worked great. Now if I can edit the Exported files and then Import them back to the radio I will have done what I wish to accomplish. This build seems to work better than the others to me.
Thank You James

Hmm, okay, well, that's good news.. I think :)
Let me know if it crops up again. Since you sent the first mail, I've been pounding on my 92AD and can't get it to fail.
Try Band B DV mode and then DV Set mode and then you shut of all GPS items, should be the solution. Gary, KI4VLH
