[chirp_users] FW: Problem with cloning to my radio
From: Joshua White Sent: Tuesday, November 5, 2019 10:33 AM To: chirp_users@intrepid.danplanet.com Subject: Problem with cloning to my radio
Hey so I programmed my first radio identical to this one (Baofang UV82L) and it worked fine. But this second one when I try to clone all my channels on to it, it reads this: An Error has occurred, The upload was stopped because the firmware version of the image ( N822413N822413) DOES NOT MATCH that of the radio.
Please help
Did you download from the problem radio first, update the image and then (re-)upload ?

Hi Joshua,
You are trying to upload an "image" from a different radio with an incompatible firmware version into the second radio. You must not do that so CHIRP won't let you. You must keep separate CHIRP Radio Image (*.img) files for each radio.
What most people do is load the saved image from the source radio to open a tab. Then download from the destination to create a second tab that is compatible with the destination radio. Then you can copy-and-past the memory rows from the source radio tab to the destination radio tab and then upload to the destination radio.
What I prefer to do is to import the source image into a tab for the destination radio. A guide can be found here.

Joshua, You appear to have mismatched firmware between radios (even with the same model number). This is not uncommon. You must do a Download from Radio from the second radio to create a new template for that radio. Then copy paste the channels from one template to the other.

I have three "identical" UV5R's. I use the same image file and get the same error on 2 of them. Every thing seems to download to the radios anyhow. I think it is more of an FYI than an error message. However what has been said above is the right way to do it.

Dennis,
It depends on the two different firmware versions. CHIRP has become smarter over the years and can now skip over some of the areas that can cause issues when incompatible images are uploaded. In those cases, it is an FYI. But in the cases where there is a reason that CHIRP can't know which areas to avoid (for example the radio doesn't share its firmware version with CHIRP) or the user is using and older version of CHIRP, the the upload is aborted.

And for future reference, you 'download' from radio to computer and 'upload' from computer to radio. Dennis M. Wage (W9BOQ)
