[chirp_users] Baofeng UV-5R not working
I have a programmed my uv-5r but for some reason I'm not receiving anything. I have tried several times to program it but it don't seem to pick up any calls from anything. I get all my info for the radio from radio reference and the frequencies. When I get toned out and fire radio goes off my uv-5r just sits there and does nothing. Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong?
Goto www.miklor.com. Check the website and the FAQs. This topic is covered rather nicely there.

I had the same issue not long ago. I tried with the OEM software and CHiRP. I ended up returning it and getting another one.

Can you hear the other station when you press and hold the [MONI] button? If you can, there are several reasons that this may be happening.
1. If you have programmed a receive CTCSS tone or a receive DCS code, the station that you are listening to must transmit the matching tone/code. It it isn't, your radio will not receive anything on this channel unless the [MONI] button being pressed.
Try programming the channel with no receive CTCSS tone or receive DCS code. OFF always works.
2. If your radio has a firmware version from 2 to 3 years ago, your radio could have the BEEP bug. If your radio has the BEEP bug and menu 8 (BEEP) is set to OFF, your radio will not receive anything unless the [MONI] button being pressed.
The workaround for the BEEP bug is to always leave menu 8 set to ON.
3. If your radio has N5R style firmware and you or someone else used an old version of CHIRP to upload a CHIRP Radio Images (*.img) file that was originally downloaded from a radio that has BFB type firmware, your radio will not receive anything unless the [MONI] button being pressed.
The easiest way to determine if an incompatible "image" was uploaded to your UV-5R would be to download a "fresh" image from your UV-5R and either attach it to a reply to this message thread or email it directly to me. I will examine it and if it is due to this issue, I will repair the image and return it to you with instructions for getting it uploaded into your radio.

If it's a old firmwre one you MUST enable the beep option in the Basic Settings or the radio goes deaf.
It's a firmware bug, once you disable the beep all audio goes muted.

That seems a radio issue, not a chirp issue.... may wanna check out the uv5r group.
