done. what about the cross mode column. it is set to tone->tone
tone->tone according to the chirp programming reference guide made by kc9hi which is posted to the link that i am including http://kc9hi.dyndns.org/uv5r/programming/CHIRP%20Guide.pdf
well anyways on page two of this programming guide it has listed for the tone->tone description/comment: The radio will use CTCSS for transmit and a different CTCSS for receive
that description/comment is what is confusing. so what should be the setting for the cross mode if i only want a transmit ctcss tone and no receive tone.

what i am needing to do is this: program only a transmit tone and it
does
not matter if it is ctcss or dcs. the agencies i work with do not
require a
receive tone. only a transmit tone is needed.
Set the Tone Mode column to Tone.
