[chirp_users] GMRS Brodcasting
I would like to use my Boafeng UV-5RA at work. We use the frequency. I can receive transmissions but I cannot transmit. I imported the GMRS frequencies from the Import from stock config menu item in CHIRP, and did not make Any changes to them. Any ideas on what setting I need to change?
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.
work frequency must have a transmit tone. The stock frequencies from CHIRP do not include any tones included.

You need to use a different radio as the Baofeng is not legal to use on GMRS. Also, GMRS needs to have a license and your work must be licensed to use a business frequency, not GMRS.

From FCC: https://www.fcc.gov/general/general-mobile-radio-service-gmrs
Go to the FCC site and read the whole page.
:An FCC license is required to operate GMRS system. Licenses are issued for a five-year term and can be renewed between 90 days prior to the expiration date and up to the actual expiration date of the license. After a license expires, an individual must request a new GMRS license.
A GMRS system licensed to a non-individual prior to July 31, 1987 is also eligible for renewal, but the licensee may not make any major modification to the system.
You may apply for a GMRS license if you are 18 years or older and not a representative of a foreign government. If you receive a license, any family member, regardless of age, can operate GMRS stations and units within the licensed system.
The FCC service rules for the GMRS are located in 47 C.F.R. Part 95 Subpart A https://www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/rules-regulations-title-47. You can find information about GMRS licensing in the rules."

Where I sit right now, I don't need a license for GMRS. 150 km south, I do.

Your radio does indeed transmit (as indicated by the red LED on the front of the radio). The radio(s) that you are trying to communicate with have selective squelch enabled. Unless you are transmitting the matching CTCSS tone or DCS code, the other radios will ignore your radio's transmissions (as they should).
