[chirp_users] THIRD REQUEST: How to hit up hidden frequecy lists?
Geez, guys. My question seems like an easy one to answer. Will no one respond to my issue?
I saved a new programming list to CHIRP (Macbook/Valley Enterprise cable/Yaesu FT-60) but I can't find it. One other earlier list shows in the "menu bar", but how do I find the second list? I new-named it, and then re-"saved" the list every 10 frequencies. Where the devil does it live, and how do I get it front-and-center when I need to upload it to a new radio? Or if the software reads my "new list" as no more than added frequencies to the initial one, why are the new frequencies not showing in the original list? Thanks
Peter, it sounds like what your asking is where did Chirp save the list on your computer hard drive? The answer is that it depends on where you told Chirp to save it. I don't know the default location, but you can see where Chirp is pointing currently by going to File in the menu bar and clicking "Save As". In the windows that pops up, you'll see "Save in folder" near the top and that will point to the folder on your hard drive where Chirp is going to save the file by default. You can of course change where the file is saved, but I'm guessing you didn't do that.
Then you can cancel out of that Save As dialog and go to File > Open. Then navigate to the folder you noticed in the Save As window and I expect you'll see your file there. You might also see it under File > Recent.
If you don't see the file in that directory - then you might have inadvertently saved it to some other location on your hard drive and you'll just need to go hunting for it (it might be faster to use Finder for that instead of Chirp). Maybe start in your Documents folder. Once you find where the file is, you should be able to Open it in Chirp and you'll have what you need.
Unless I'm misunderstanding something, Chirp hasn't hidden the file from you, but rather it was saved and closed and now you need to tell Chirp where it is on your hard drive - this is how a lot of programs work - Chirp is no different. There isn't just ONE Chirp file, but rather you can use Chirp to open and manage numerous files (both .img files for specific radios or .csv files for storing lists of frequencies not specific to a radio). If you've ever used Microsoft Word or Excel, think of Chirp as program like that and your image and csv files as various documents you open/edit/save/close.
Hope that helps, Tycen K7TYC

Hi Peter,
By default, my version of Chirp drops the config files into my home directory (top level of users/cbratton/ in my case). Each saved config is an iso file. You can change the default location that chirp uses at the top of the download window once you download a config to begin making changes.
If you’re not sure where the config went, try downloading from the radio again and looking at the top of the window when you start to save the config. You might also change the name of the config before you save to have a known target name to search for.

I don't use Mac, but since I think it's BSD based it should be similar to Ubuntu Linux.
When you "Save As" you get a dialog that asks WHERE to save your file and WHAT name to give it. If you don't remember where you are saving the files, start a new save as, note where you have been saving the files, then cancel the save as.
By "menu bar" it sounds like you are referring to the open file tabs, not the "File Edit View Radio Help" menus. Tabs only show open files, not every file. When I do a save as, my tab changes to reflect the name I just saved as, disassociating from the previous filename. Any future "File->Save" (not Save As) would update the new file rather than the previous file.
To open more files (tabs), go to the File->Open menu, navigate to the location where you save your files (if not already there) and you should see your available files.
If I fumbled Mac handling, hopefully someone will chime in.

It should have saved to wherever you loaded the first list from. If in doubt, pick SAVE AS which allows you to pick a folder to save to.
Only byou, as user of your computer, can know where you save files to.

When I forget where I saved a file, I use "Save As" and the last used folder opens up, and if I sort the files by DATE, I will see the file I saved last.
The other way to find the file is to determine what the file extension of the file is, say it's a csv file you saved.
I go to MENU then it says "Find" and I type in csv and all my csv files will pop up, that's in KDE Linux and Ubuntu is similar.
Here's a page from Ubuntu wiki: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/find
If you don't have a "find files" program, use the Ubuntu program installer and install one. catfish is one.
