[chirp_users] Another question
I saved my template after uploading it to the radio and I need to make some changes, but I can’t seem to access the template when I open it. Is is not possible to amend the settings from the saved copy and then upload it to the radio??
Thanks, Whit k3wb
Whit, I'm curious. Did you create an initial template?
CHIRP supports over 60 different model transceivers. You must First create a template by performing a Download from Radio so CHIRP know the model and parameters of your radio. Make your changes and updates to the template, then perform an Upload to Radio.
Hope this helps . . .

No, John. I just downloaded what was on the radio when I bought it. There are many columns that ask for information that is not available from the various repeaters and don’t seem to have a bearing on the use. Things like “cross mode” and “tone sql” and “DTCS code” and DTCS Rx code” and etc. Didn’t realize I could make a different template, but what if I were to leave off something important? How is one to know?

Whit,
One thing that I recommend for new CHIRP users is to select View from the menu bar and then enable "Hide Unused Fields".
Take a look as some of the CHIRP guides that are available on the miklor.com website. The are geared more for the UV-5R but still might be helpful.

The page "Understanding CHIRP's Columns on the CHIRP website is also useful.

Yes. The whole point of CHIRP is to be able to save the settings to a file, edit them later and upload them back into the radio.

Thanks. That's encouraging. I seem to have a bit of trouble with the template freezing up and not allowing me to make changes, but it is intermittent. Last time I tried, it world. Figure.
