[chirp_users] Firmware version
I have just discovered that my new uv-82 L has a different firmware version then my first radio. Is there a way that I can update the first one to be the same as the second?

This is a good question for the manufacturer, but outside the scope of something Chirp could do. (Chirp does not attempt to change firmware on any radio.)
You can copy the same set of channels to both radios with Chirp, assuming Chirp supports both firmware versions.

It does copy to both firmware versions but it is a tricky process. Not as straightforward as I would have liked. Thanks for the information.

Gary,
Baofeng has made memory layout changes with several of their firmware changes. This makes the CHIRP Radio Images (*.img) files saved from a radio with one firmware version incompatible with the same radio model having a different firmware version. For this reason, CHIRP now compares the firmware version of the radio with the firmware version of the image being uploaded and if they don't exactly match, the upload is not permitted.
What you must do is import the channels from the source radio to the target radio and then change the configure the settings that aren't stored as part of the channels manually. Another (less thorough) method to transfer the channels is to download from each radio (or load existing images) creating separate tabs and then copy-and-paste between the tabs.

Hi, thanks for your response, I appreciate it. However after spending a few hours in the school of hard knocks I managed to figure that out myself. but at least I did graduate with a diploma! All is working well now.
