It sounds like you are trying to upload a Vertex image to a Baofeng. This won't work. Your Baofeng is not a Vertex.
1. Download from your UV5. 2. Type or import any channels you want on the UV5. 3. Upload to UV5.

Lots of programs for configuring radios require you to download from your radio before they will let you write to it.
