[chirp_users] Baofeng uv-66
Greetings to the chirp guru's Just wondering if any development has been done for Baofeng UV-66?
Randy VE3JPU@me.com
The UV66 appears to be a UV5R or UV82 in a different case. Try doing a Download from Radio selecting the two above.
Let us know if either of those works.

Randy,
Apparently this radio uses a different "magic" string to initiate cloning than is used by the rest of the supported models.
What do you see when you power the radio on with the [3] key pressed?
Jim KC9HI
Hi Jim When I hold the 3 key down the only difference is there is (so very briefly) some very small symbols across the top of the screen and part way down the right side. Hi have made a video of it I can strip a frame from it and send it to you if that will help

Randy,
I was hoping it would be "BFB297". If it was, it would just be another one of many UV-5R variants and easy to add. Now I wonder if it is a UV-6R variant?

Hi Again Jim
Well as a point of interest I did try the UV-6 from the list of models when I was trying to download from the radio, but that did not work either.

The UV-6R is a completer different animal compared to the UV-6 and UV-B6 (which are also both unrelated). The UV-6R is not supported by CHIRP. The UV-B6 is supported. Some models of UV-6 are supported.

You should try the OEM software on a 32-bit Windows computer and log the transfer using Portmon. That log would be very useful. Otherwise it would take getting one in the hands of a developer that is interested in working on it.
Jim KC9HI
Hi Jim & Randy
Randy, you can follow the steps described on this link http://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/2671#note-7 and corrections made on this one http://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/2671#note-10 to make a dump of the radio comm protocol.
/I'm thinking about to clear this up and make a wiki page describing the complete procedure..../
An then upload the two logs to a issue request for the new radio on the same site.
That will be the first steps to support this model, with luck there will be only a few tweaks to the UV-5R driver and that's all.
