[chirp_users] CB Freq. With Baofeng
Can Chirp be used to program the Baofeng UV-5RA with CB frequencies such as the popular channel 19? Sent from my U.S.Cellular© Tablet
No they can't. CB uses AM freqs. the UV5RA is FM. ----- Original Message ----- From: donieallen1971@yahoo.com via chirp_users To: chirp_users@intrepid.danplanet.com Sent: Saturday, February 11, 2017 7:34 PM Subject: [chirp_users] CB Freq. With Baofeng

No. These radios cover 130-174 MHz and 400-520 MHz and RX/TX FM only.
CB is 26-27 MHz and RX/TX AM and SSB only.

I have a question, And since it is off-topic, let's not get too many responses... Why are the lower frequencies only AM in the U.S.? Does AM propigate better at this frequency? Thanks.

Lower than what? Lower frequencies are not only AM. Very few frequencies are xclusively AM.

Aircraft communication is AM, and 120MHz is not a lower frequency!

I was referring to 27 mhz and lower. Looks like that the UK uses FM on CB frequencies, but isn't 10 meters and 20 meters and so onall AM?

I would suggest you find a local Amateur Radio Club. They probably will offer classes that would teach you the basic theories and legal aspects of using these radios. That way we can stay 'on topic'. Either buy a cb or a scanner to listen, if you wish.
