[chirp_users] Tyt 9800 Importing Problems
Hi All, I'm still working on my Tytera 9800. I have had trouble working on the CSV file of the 227 memories. My MS Office Excel seems to mess up the fields. For some reason, my LibreOffice Calc crashes when I open the CSV in there. I had a portable version of Libre Office, so I installed the full version, and that kept crashing too. I'm using windows 10. So I ran Dism with the repair switches, and that didn't find anything. So I ran SFC and that fixed a problem and I rebooted. I tried Libre Office again, and it keeps crashing. I fixed up the CSV in Notepad, making sure to not mess with the commas. But I need to get the data into Chirp to upload it to the radio. I installed Open Office, and opened it up in there, but the data does not past into Chirp. I tried to import the CSV file into Chirp, but it does not find it to be a file it can open. The error is: An error has occurred Unknown File Format Should Chirp be able to import a CSV file? I am using Chirp Next from a couple days ago. Thanks for any suggestions. Glenn

Why do you keep opening the CSV file in a spreadsheet? Granted it's easier to read in a spreadsheet, but somewhere along the line it seems your CSV file got corrupted.
Try opening the CSV file in notepad, it won't add anything to the file that might cause these problems.
My suggestion:
A) Start with a brand-new, fresh CSV file B) Open the file in Notepad (you may have to right-click on the file and use "Open with..." to select Notepad C) Edit the file as you like, and save it to the exact same name if you can, if not, be sure to retain the file suffix (like .CSV) D) Try to import the updated file
You could try importing the CSV file immediately after you export it - don't touch it at all - to ensure you are starting with a known-good file.
Hope this helps,
Ken, N2VIP

Well I mentioned that I did edit it in notepad. But I sure don't know what would make it not importable in Chirp. Glenn ----- Original Message ----- From: Ken Hansen To: Discussion of CHIRP Sent: Sunday, August 20, 2023 5:56 PM Subject: Re: [chirp_users] Tyt 9800 Importing Problems

Hi Ken, The copy I have was exported from Chirp. I find it almost impossible to find missing fields using notepad, my screenreader reads multiple commas as one.

If I follow your narrative correctly, you opened it up in Excel, two different versions of Libre Office, THEN you edited it in Notepad. (I think it was corrupted by one or both of the spreadsheet programs you opened it up in first, I doubt Notepad would corrupt it.)
Then you said you tried open office, and THEN you tried to import it into the chirp.
Take a good, serious look at the CSV file in notepad again, there are likely extraneous characters in the file that is messing up the import.
What is the source of the file? What is the file extension? (Sometimes this matters, doubtful in this case, but who knows?)
Can you get a fresh copy (export from chirp) and then edit it on Notepad?
Based on what you are describing, that's the best I can come up with.
Ken
