[chirp_users] Programming The TYT th 9800
Hello,I will be getting the TYT 9800 with a programming cable.I have programmed my Baofengs with Chirp, so I know how to use the program in general.I'm wondering if I can import the .CSV file for any of my Baofengs into Chirp when I have downloaded from the TYT, or if the Baofeng radios have settings that won't sit well in the TYT.Also, this radio has 6-meter and 10-meter, and I can look at Radio Reference, but does anyone know if generally, there are any local frequencies that are in these bands? Thanks.
Local to where? We don't know where you are located.

Hi, Note that I asked the question "generally", meaning that I don't know if we need to program in standard frequencies with something like 5KHZ divisions, or if areas use any given frequency. I realize that repeaters are area specific, LOL.

Don't do it that way. Export a csv file from radio when you get it... load into excel or whatever and copy and paste the corresponding columns.

Yes, you can EXPORT csv from your Baofeng and save the file.
Download from your new radio and save the image.
With the download from your new radio displayed, you can IMPORT the Baofeng file into the new radio. Chirp should ignore anything that is not compatible with the new radio.
As regards to local frequencies for 6 and 10, it depends where you live.

A CSV by its nature does not contain settings that "won't set well" in another radio. But unless you already keep .CSV files saved for your existing radios, there is not need to perform the extra step of saving to a .CSV file. You can download from your new TYT into CHIRP and then directly import the .IMG file from one of your Baofeng radios.

You can import an image file from a brand/model 'A' radio into chirp for a brand/model 'B' radio? Between all the different brands and models?

Yep. I use the CHIRP Radio Images (*.img) file from my Baofeng UV-5R purchased in 2012 as the master image for loading the memories in nearly all of my CHIRP supported radios (Wouxun, Retevis, Leixen, BTech, etc.). No need to create a .CSV file. And importing an *.img file transfers more per-channel settings than importing a *.csv file does.
