You did remove the data cable from the radio. Something I've done when hurried to test it, not remove the cable.

After uploading my first template to my new BF-F8HP all of the memory channels are correct. CHIRP seems to have operated as expected. But there is no audio now on the radio. Not even squelch. It doesn’t look like any setting would have disabled the audio. What could have caused this?

Yes. I did actually remove and install it several times when trying to diagnose the problem. On the last try I downloaded the radio image again to CHIRP and then uploaded it to the radio then unplugged the cable and it worked. Too many steps in the mix to determine what worked.
