[chirp_users] Yaesu FT-7100

I hauled out my FT-7100 and thought I'd give CHIRP a try for programming it since it's no in the list of supported radios.
Everything went smoothly until I tried to connect to the radio. I'm using a Tripp-Lite USB to Serial adapter and my Win10 machine shows in on port 10.
When trying to upload a newly edited copy of an old .eep file, I eventually receive a message that says it can't connect to the radio.
Looking for troubleshooting ideas.

MY advice? Fork out the dough and just use the ADMS software. It’s pricey, but it works. Flawlessly.

Scroll to the bottom of the ports listing and use USB0. Worked for me with a similar issue.

I am using a UV-5RA and it has about a sec delay before I hear the other person talk is this normal or is there a setting someplace that I can change? A real pain as it cuts off the other persons one or 2 first words.
Thanks

On the baofeng 888 model and that happens when the "battery saver" option is enabled. See if your radio has that and if it is turned on.

Is it on a repeater? Since a lot of repeaters are using a digital tie-in, they are often delayed when it is actively linked. Glenn ----- Original Message ----- From: David To: chirp_users@intrepid.danplanet.com Sent: Sunday, March 29, 2020 5:25 PM Subject: Re: [chirp_users] Baofeng UV-5RA

Set menu 35 (STE), menu 36 (RP-STE) and menu 37 (RPT-RL) to OFF
http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_MenuDef.php
You can do this within CHIRP as well...
Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Squelch Tail Eliminate (HT to HT): [ ] Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Squelch Tail Eliminate (repeater): OFF Settings -> Advanced Settings -> STE Repeater Delay: OFF
Jim KC9HI

Not sure how to do that?

Info is at the bottom of every email but the answer is send your question to chirp_users@intrepid.danplanet.com
Dave W2IJL

(1) The first thing you must do with CHIRP is download from the radio to create an image (.img file) for CHIRP to use for your radio. Save-As that file in a safe place to have it available to restore the radio later if needed. Name it something like "FT-7100 Initial Download Image 03-20-2020" (2) Make the changes you want using the CHIRP editor, and then save that file with something like "FT-7100 Changes 03-30-2010" (3) Upload your newly modified image file to the radio.
