[chirp_users] Anytone AT-5888UV
Anyone developing support for the Anytone AT-5888UV?
I own two radios and to be honest their software sucks big time. It will crash if you breath too hard sitting at your PC.
Not sure what all the program developers would need to work on software for this radio, but I'd be willing to contribute actual programmed files and the software can be downloaded from imporcommunications.com. The Prolific USB driver is included. I'd also donate some cash to help out there as long as I knew work was being done for supporting this rig.

Adding support requires the actual radio (usually loaned to a developer).

That's what I figured. I'm doing online support for an American importer. I have two radios that so far I haven't been asked to pay for. The first radio #19 off the production line has quite a few bugs but most of them are left side of radio band vs right side band. I own the Yahoo news group for the radio. We are 500+ members strong now that the radios are being imported and sold. I would need to ask the importer but I might be able to give up the early production radio and the USB-Serial cable to a developer as long as I had some kind of guarantee that it would be returned. I really abhor Anytone's joke software. It lacks many features that can be manually programmed into the radio. And It crashes if you modify a file then try to upload it to the radio. You have to first save that file then open the saved file before you can write. So yes if the importer says I can loan the radio and I get something legal in writing saying it will be returned upon request I can help in this way.
Let me know what you think. Also, I don't know your position in the development team. Are you just a user or do you actually develop builds that include new radios? Is there another maybe higher up in the hierarchy of developers I should be in contact with? You can email me off list with detailed information if you have it.
Thanks, Phil.

The written agreement is here: http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Rules_For_Loaning_A_Radio
In the past, importers have donated radios for Chirp development. This is very generous and by no means a requirement. If you want the radio back, you'll get it back, usually within a week or two.

I maintain most of the Kenwood drivers and some of the Yaesu drivers. I've written a few new drivers, but my schedule is pretty solid the next few months so I don't think I'll have time for this one.
