[chirp_users] Trouble with iOS 10.13.3
Hello,
I have been trying in vain to get my radio to talk with CHIRP on my Macbook Pro running 10.13.3. I have downloaded and installed the latest cable drivers and the latest CHIRP build. I have verified that the cable is recognized, but when I try to download from the radio, even with the correct radio (UV-5RV2+) and port (/dev/cu.usbserial), it simply hangs and says that the radio did not respond. All of the software works great on my PC, but I have been trying to get the Mac version to work for a long time with no luck. I have scanned countless forums and mail lists, but I have yet to find a solution. The cable I have is a Baofeng cable (it says Baofeng right on it), so I assume that this is not a cheap junk cable. I have attached the debug log below. Can anyone help please!!
Hi Scott,
I use a Mac regularly to run CHIRP. However, unless your cable is a _real_ FTDI cable, you are likely going to run into driver issues. MacOS includes drivers for FTDI. No additional driver downloads necessary. (Also check that the volume on your HT is loud and K-plug is firmly seated). One of my Baofengs required a little pocket knife work on the moulded K-plug before it would fully seat.

Thanks for the info. I did indeed make sure the volume was all the way up, and I assume that if the cable has the Baufeng logo on it, then it must be genuine. Could you tell me what cable you use?
Thanks,
SCOTT AC7OD

Hi Scott,
I have a collection of cables for the various HT’s and mobiles from BlueMax49ers, Mark Dunkle, KJ6ZWL. You’ll find his cables listed on both Amazon and on eBay. All have been used on my Mac without issue. I’m not associated with Mark other than being a satisfied customer :-)
If you don’t find his store, his email address is DunkleM@gmail.com mailto:DunkleM@gmail.com

Thank you for the info. I will try a new cable and see if that helps.
