[chirp_users] Create file without radio
Is it possible to create a file for a specific model of radio, without having the radio?
The "New" option seems to create a D-STAR profile, but can't see an option anywhere to change the model.
Jim
No, you cannot but we have images of most (if not all) supported radios which are used for testing. You can download them from repository http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/repository/show/tests/images

I've tried to open a couple of the files (Puxing PX-777 and Wouxun KG-816) and they both say unable to detect model.
When the correct model is selected, the frequency table has ERROR in some fields and the settings tab is either blank or missing.
Tried a few others at random and got the same thing.
Am I doing something wrong?

The both just opened fine for me. Which version of CHIRP are you using? I'm using the v20130506 daily build.
Jim
That's strange, tested myself and both are working. Please try with this direct links: http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/repository/raw/tests/images/Wouxun... http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/repository/raw/tests/images/Puxing...

Dear all,
I saved the .img files below and then opened CHIRP>file>open and clicked on one of the .img files saved and it opened and looked normal and the radio model was at the upper left. I got the same result with both files.
I am using windows 7. The below is from my version of CHIRP, under help>about.
CHIRP 0.3.1
GTK 2.24.10 PyGTK 2.24.0 Python 2.7.2
This info may not be helpful but I think the files .img saved look ok and I don't have the radios listed but the .img files load and look normal to me. I have the IC ID-880H and have cloned in and out with this version of CHIRP on my IC ID-880H just to see if I knew how to use it and all worked ok.
Take care,
