[chirp_users] Baojie BJ318
Hello, I have a question about adding new radio`s: I just purchased the new Baojie BJ318, this radio is not on the list of Chirp. Would it be possible to add it to the list?
Kind regards Ron
I have tried to program radio with 3 computers and have not got it to work. Has Anyone been successful? I’m worn out trying.

Hi Gary, I have in Chirp the Baojie 218 used. Programming with this will work. Only the menu settings does not work. Try this option, it will work. Lots of success! Ron

Garry,
According to the CHIRP Supported Radio Models list on the CHIRP home page, you should be using...
Vendor: Baofeng Model: UV-82III (which is the same as BF-A58S)

UV-82III does not work on my AR-F3

Are you sure it isn't the programming cable?
Jim KC9HI
No, it’s a new baufang factory cable. But that doesn’t mean any thing. I tried a generic cable and it gave a no response error.

I'll be if you don't even attach the programming cable to the radio you get the same error. It is a programming cable problem and once you get it solved, the UV-82III selection will work.
Are you running Windows? If it has a Prolific type USB-to-Serial chip, have you downloaded, installed and selected the older v3.2.0.0 device driver? If it is a WCH CH340/CH341 chip, have you downloaded and installed the WCH driver?
Jim KC9HI
Well, good and bad news. I have the CH340 USB Type cable and If I pull the plug on the cable I get the exact message as if I was trying to download with the radio on and plugged in. I have a disk from badfeng it came with the cable and the diver is recognized by windows 10 but does not work. We’re do I find the old driver to install?

My recommendation, except for Prolific type chips, is to always get the latest device driver from the chip vendor's website.

Gary,
So there is currently no communication between the radio and CHIRP. Assuming that you now have the correct device driver installed, I would double check that COM5 is actually the one assigned to the programming cable. My Windows 10 computer has a COM1 one available that most programming wants to connect to so I always have to move it to COM3 (or other depending on which programming cables I am using).
I would also check to make sure the radio end of the programming cable is properly connected to the radio. It is common for the 2-pin plug to stick when inserted and not be fully inserted. I had this issue with my first UV-82. It sticks solidly and I would have sworn that it was fully inserted. But close examination revealed that it was not so a quick wiggle and push of the plug got it to go the rest of the way. Some have to go as far as pressing on the plug during the cloning process to get the required connection.
Jim KC9HI
. . If it's not in the Supported Radios list, it's possible a request hasn't been submitted. Here's the request process.
________________
The official CHIRP website is:
http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home
Here's the procedure for requesting a new radio...
If you would like to open a request, you would need to
- Go to the CHIRP website. (link above)
- Register to the website (upper right corner)
- Select the Issues Tab and verify that the request for the new radio hasn't already been submitted.
- If it's not found, select the New Issue tab and submit your request.
- Check back periodically to review the status of your request.
At that time a volunteer interested in taking on the project will respond to the request.
In most cases, a loaner radio is required so it can be backward engineered.

Hello,
I have a question about adding new radio`s:
I just purchased the new Baojie BJ318, this radio is not on the list of Chirp.
Would it be possible to add it to the list?
Kind regards

My understanding is that it uses the BJ218 model selection.
