on the latest version of Chirp-Next I'm unable to find a Baofeng UV-B6 radio. I'm pretty sure there was one in the old version of Chirp so I assume there is an equivilent radio model that can be used. But which one ? I've tried downloading rig data usung the UV-B5 model but no joy. Ideas please... Yes, I know its an old radio and newer, better ones are cheaper etc.- but its almost idiot proof and with helpfully limited menu options. thanks

Hi Mike,
The UV-B5 is the correct model selection. Without knowing seeing a debug.log file or know what the error message was, I would expect the problem is the typical driver and/or connection issue.

Thankyou for the info Jim. Just re-tried using the UV-B5 model and I get an 'Error communicating with radio' window announcing an 'Unexpected response'. The Prog. lead is known good for, and with Wouxen's. Ideas?

That would indicate that the radio is communicating with the radio up to the point where the cloning process is starting. However, at the point where the error occurred, the radio did not reply with the expected ack. The debug.log should show what the expected ack was and what, if anything, was returned.
To make sure that CHIRP is working properly, I dug my UV-B5 out and successfully read from it.

(1) Open CHIRP (2) Navigate: Help>Show debug log location

Thanks Jim, just got back to playing with the UV-B6. Under windows 11 Pro, where does the debug.log file reside?
