[chirp_users] Setup Issues
Hello,
I am having issues setting up the Chirp, the only ports I see is for bluetooth options. I do not see the USB ports.
I have a MacBook Air.
I have installed the drivers for the USB cables with no luck.
The USB cables should appear as serial ports. If you cannot see'em as serial ports on the Mac, you cannot get past square 0. (I've found it useful to jumper the TX and RX pins on the cable's radio plug and try to send typed characters through the USB cable as a serial port using a terminal emulator; you should see the typed characters echoed on the console. How to properly jumper the TX and RX will depend on the circuitry in your particular cable, but this is discoverable from a 'Net search.)

Each of us has strengths and talents that others don't. Whether innate or learned, these are gifts -- and a gift not shared is a sad and lonely thing. Using our gifts for the benefit of all is an ethical obligation for every intelligent being. One of the Chirp coders put together a Mac driver PKG that I know works from OSX 10.8 and up. His name is Jens and I think I have the installer .pkg file but I forget where I got it. I guess it's somewhere on the danplanet site maybe one of the guys will chime in with the link.

Also, what cable are you using? One with a Prolific chip or one with an FTDI chip? The package file I mentioned is for Prolific. I've only used a Prolific cable on my MacBook Pro.

FTDI? is that the default normal Wouxun cable? On Apr 2, 2014, at 7:27 AM, Milton Hywatt mhywattt@yahoo.com wrote:

Hi Brett What kind of cable are you using? I use chirp on a 6 year old MacBook and I'm having no problem. I'm using the cable with FTDI chipset.

I connected the cable into a PC and found out that it was a prolific cable, so I just installed it and rebooting. On Apr 2, 2014, at 7:54 AM, Randy Elliott ve3jpu@me.com wrote:

This is what I first used for OSX Lion http://changux.co/osx-installer-to-pl2303-serial-usb-on-osx-lio/
It is an installer package but the installer is in Spanish. But if you are familiar with how an installer package proceeds, you will figure it out.
This may also work for you, it does show the installer dialog in english

I don't know if the list is sending these messages way out of order or a Yahoo problem. I saw another message with this message quoted in the reply maybe an hour ago.
