Is the UV5R even useful that high? IIRC, we chose the limit upper boundary to be the highest useful frequency it can be used for. If it is really capable of locking that high on receive, then we should probably make it honor the limits set by the user instead of the arbitrary ones we chose.

Good question! Maybe because considering the amateur Band ftequences, ordinary two-way radios (gmrs/frs, murs, etc) it is useless. But it worked, I can take a pic or make a movie showing many monitoring frequencies around 990mhz! But only once I could hear loud and clear

Just because a radio will receive something under some conditions, does not mean that it is "usable".
I can listen to WWV in FM mode and hear the broadcast perfectly fine.
I can listen to the various NOAA FM weather stations in AM mode and hear the broadcast perfectly fine.
In Los Angeles I could listen to the (very near) local AM broadcast station on *any* frequency on some radios (including FM broadcast-only receivers).
