Hi, UK Radio Ham here looking for img file for the KG UV6D that I can load on to this hand held. I am sixty years young so any help very much appreciated. In particular UK 2 meter repeater list and a way of expanding the radios frequency range ? any pointers help very much appreciated regards for now G4XCP
There is a programme that is Wouxun KG-UV6D specific and works extremely well. I use it with CHIRP as well, by reading the frequencies from my KG-UVD6 into a CHIRP file after customizing through this other programme. Take a look at www.kc8unj.com

I just downloaded it and tried it on my KG-UV6D Ver 2. It does not act properly after clearing a memory channel using the CLEAR feature. When I went to the CONFIGURATION SETTINGS tab I could not go back to MAIN MEMORIES tab.
I'm going to wait this Beta version out for awhile before using it again.
Also, it has an import feature that allows you to import files from the KG-UVD1P to be loaded into the KG-UVD6D. I would be real careful with this until it is proven to work OK. I was warned by the dealer that I bought my 6D from not to try and load the 1P file into the 6D, as it will "brick" the radio and they haven't figured out a way to get it back. I'll give it some time before I try this import feature.

Hi I recently updated the support for KG UV6D so first of all I strongly suggest you to use a recent daily version of chirp.
Now ... you don't have to put an img from a different radio but you can copy memories from img of any other radio supported by chirp to your one.
In simple steps: - connect your KG UV6D - from menu Radio select Download from radio, choose port, vendor and model and press OK - from menu file select Save as to make a copy of the actual status of your radio (to be used to restore your radio if you want) - from menu file select Import and then choose the memory image you want (eg the img from the kenwood a friend sent you ;) ) - select which memories you want to actually import (may be all) and press ok - check all memories to be where you expect them to be - from menu Radio select Upload to radio DONE!
In the setting tab at the left you can also find and change the freq ranges of your radio but remember "This has been tested and reports from other users indicate that it is a safe thing to do. However modifications to this value may have unintended consequences, including damage to your device. You have been warned. Proceed at your own risk!" Obviously you have to upload to radio only at the end of all mods ;)
Should you ever want to restore the radio you can open the img file saved above and simply upload it to the radio.
For the UK repeater list I hope any UK ham will give a file to import

This is a great improvement Marco.
Is there a fix for the KG-UDV1P file that will allow All Settings?? As of now all that shows when it is expanded, is Freq Ranges. Perhaps the All Settings could be duplicated from the KG-UV6D file??
Tnx es 73

Hi Ross the improvement was possible thanks to Johan Adler that provided the settings memory map, unluckily we don't have such a map for KG-UDV1P (yet).
Should some one provide us the memory map I promise I'll add all the setttings :) As of now all UDV1P known settings are exposed. There're probably only few differences between UDV1P and UDV6D but I don't own either of them so I can't figure out the map myself.
BTW I've just done the same work for ft817 and now working on my ft857.
