[chirp_users] file damaged or incomplete
Hello again, Other issue I found was with the stable version download of 0.4.0 was in OS X. attempting to run the app gives a system UI error "the file is either incomplete or damaged". so, basically, it won't run on my OS X Lion installation. I wanted to see if the interface worked there.

Eric, Same here. I’m using OSX 10.9.2

Can you guys re-download and try again? The source builds (which includes this) got tagged internally with the wrong version, which is probably what OSX is complaining about with that very obtuse error message. I just re-built and uploaded it.
Thanks!

You see this error because Dan has not paid Apple to become an official registered developer and signed his releases. You have OS X configured to only allow signed apps from official developers to run.
In your System Preferences, go to Security & Privacy, General tab. Click the lock, then choose Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere.
It's working fine here on OS X 10.9.2.

Okay, I thought it might have been because the OSX build was actually built incorrectly as a daily. I would have hoped that not having a signature would generate a more relevant error message.

If that's really the problem, then we probably need a big fat warning on the download page...

Tom's statement is valid, but I would recommend a different solution. Instead of carte blanche allowing any unsigned apps, I would recommend the following procedure instead:
- Locate the app in Finder. - Right click (control-click if you don't have a Magic Mouse) on the app and click Open. - You will get a dialog box about it being an unsigned app, click the Open button. - Enter the userid and password of the Administrative login. - The app will now be flagged to allow it to be opened normally in the future.
The above is the preferred method, especially if you have kids, visiting grandkids, or crazy brothers-in-law as you retain some control over what gets installed on your system.
And to keep this posting as topically valid, the just now downloaded version 0.4.0 runs just fine on my system under 10.9.2.

Agreed. I added this and the global option to the MacOS Tips page, and linked it from the Download location.

Cool. Too bad Apple couldn't make this a little more obvious, but I very much appreciate the workarounds and verification.
Thanks!

This also happened to the PL2303 driver package Jens put together. Apples user control. I think you can also right click and choose run instead of double clicking. This method gives you some options IIRC if you don't want to change your security settings.

Tom's statement is valid, but I would recommend even a simpler solution.
1. Right-click on the Mac OS X CHIRP 0.4.0 app. 2. A context menu will appear, with Open being the top menu item. 3. Click on the Open context menu item. 4. A dialog opens, showing two messages: "chirp-04.0 app" is from an unidentified developer. Are you sure you want to open it? Opening "chirp-04.0 app" will always allows it to run on this Mac. The dialog also contains two buttons: [ Open ] and [ Cancel ] 4. Click on the dialog [ Open ] button. 5. You are ready to go with running CHIRP on Mac OS X
You will never have to run the above procedure again. Deploy CHIRP on a second, or more Mac OS X? You guessed it, run the above procedure there too.
Unlike Windows, this is Apple’s way of preventing unauthorized apps to run on their on their own and install malware. If you are a Mac user, be thankful for this very slight inconvenience.
