[chirp_users] Baofeng woes
Everything seemed to be great with my first programming attempt. Now I'm getting the dreaded NO SOUND while someone is transmitting. I found through a search that I could push the mono button down to hear. It worked. So I've obviously got a corrupted image or something. I'm new to this and it seems I've ruined this BF-F9V2. Any easy fixes? Thanks for any advice.

Get the latest CHIRP daily build if you don't already have it. Use CHIRP to find out what the "real" firmware version your radio has.
Settings -> Other Settings -> Firmware Message 1:
Then get a "factory" image that was saved from a radio having the exact same firmware version and upload it to your radio.

I read somewhere, to turn the radio off...then depress the 3 key and turn the radio on, and the firmware number will display in the radio's led display window. Anyway that's how I found my firmware number. It worked for me. Whether it is correct or not is yet to be determined.
And thanks for the link to the firmware .img files. I'm far from getting the radio programmed. I'll send you an email Jim and you'll see why.

Powering the radio on with the [3] key pressed stopped being a method for determining the firmware of this style of Baofeng radio over 2 years ago with the release of BFB299 firmware. Powering on your radio with the [3] key depressed only accurately identifies the firmware version if it displays from BFB231 through BFB295.
All UV-5R radios (and variants) since BFB297 all masquerade as BFB297in this power-on message even though the "real" firmware version continues to change. The exception is BFS313 firmware which displays BFS297. I believe it is up to N5R240A now.
Using CHIRP is the only method that I know of that will allow you to determine the actual firmware version of these Baofeng radios.

BFB297 is the display I got when I used the method I described. So apparently I still don't know what version of firmware I have until I get a workable cable. (ref: email I sent concerning non-genuine FTDI chip cable, the Baofeng branded one.)
Thanks again, I'll likely have questions later :)

You can use a cheap clone cable if yo downgrade the driver to ver 3.2.0.0. See www. Miklor.com for details and driver download and much more… בתאריך 9 במרץ 2016 20:09, "Larry Hook" lhook0387@gmail.com כתב:
