Best substitute model to use in CHIRP for Baofeng AR-5RM
I just bought a Baofeng AR-5RM from Amazon. (... less than $30, of course). It's an 8 watt (more or less), 999 channel, tri-band (2m, 1.25m, 70cm) radio with AM air band receive capability. It seems to do all those things, but it's not currently support by CHIRP. I was wondering whether anyone could suggest an alternative in CHIRP.
The Amazon page for the radio shows an image showing that it can be programmed by telling CHIRP it's a UV-17Pro. Well, that kind-a sort-a works, but doesn't handle the radio's full capabilities. First off, it doesn't recognize that there are three power levels. Also, I can enter and store air band AM frequencies on the radio itself, but I can't add nor even edit those entries when read from the radio.
Just looking for a suggestion. Thanks!
Oh, by the way, the radio didn't even come with the correct manual. The manual is for the "BF-5RH SERIES", and it makes no mention of the 1.25m capability, AM air band receive, or higher power.
