I just received a box of new GT-3TPs, and programmed them with CHIRP to my standard settings. But apparently they won't transmit in GMRS freqs, where I have both ham and GMRS licenses.
In CHIRP Other Settings, here are the settings:
UHF Lower Limit (MHZ) 400 UHF Upper Limit (MHz) 600 UHF TX Enabled check
I reset one HT to factory and experimented with the rig bone stock. For it and the whole box of HTs. the highest they will go is 449.995MHz. Above that, the PTT button just beeps, as if the keyboard lock were on.
Is this some new restriction? Can I use CHIRP to get around it?
They are locked to not be able to TX above 450 MHz because they are not legal for use above that.

The old UV5R 3-finger reset did the trick. They are unlocked now.

the radio is not able to do GMRS
Frequency Range: VHF 144-148MHz & UHF 420-450MHz
420 to 450 is all it will do

I also hate sitting through a youtube video when a few lines of text would have answered a question. This is what works with a Baofeng UV82. I think the same works for other models. - Dale
The three buttons that must be held down:
PTT-A This is the upper button on the left side of the radio.
MON This is the lower button on the left side of the radio.
# This is the lower right button on the radio keypad.
1. Turn off the radio.
2. Press all three of these buttons.
3. Turn on the radio.
4. The radio should display the word “FACTORY” for 5 to 10 seconds.
If the display continues to display “factory” proceed to the next step.
Usually, the word disappears momentarily. If you do not see this displayed
turn off the radio and repeat.
5. Turn off the radio.
6. Turn on the radio and try to transmit on a frequency outside the HAM band such as a GMRS frequency.

It is not unusual for may Baofeng radios being sold today to be firmware limited to only transmit withing the ham bands. In the USA it would be 144-148 MHz and 420-450 MHz. All frequencies outside of those ranges are RX only.
