[chirp_users] baofeng cable
is there any chance that someone is able to write the s/w necessary to [in WIN 10] DELETE the FTDI driver which renders the baofeng cable inoperative AND write the s/w which would REenable the baofeng cable after FTDI has trashed it so we can use it w/ CHIRP and WIN 10? tnx, larry KD9AVZ
I hadn't really followed the Windows 10 discussions, since they didn't concern me. Then I bought a Toshiba with Win 10.
I connected my UV-5R and FTDI cable for the first time, then installed the newest daily build./
It worked the first and subsequent times with no driver issues.

Go to Device Manager and reset your drivers there. DM, comm ports.

When you say "the boafeng cable", do you mean the programming cable manufactured for Baofeng and has a Baofeng label? If you do, it has a counterfeit Prolific type chip. It doesn't use FTDI drivers. All you have to do to make it work is to download, install and select the Prolific v3.2.0.0 driver that was released back in 2007.
When you say "the baofeng cable", do you mean the Kenwood style 2-pin programming cable that fits Kenwood, Wouxun, Baofeng and many other radios? If you do, all you need to do is purchase a programming cable with a genuine FTDI chip and no driver will render it inoperative. There are plenty of sources, Baofeng Tech (a Baofeng radio dealer based in the USA not to be confused with Baofeng the radio manufacturer based in China).

The best way to uninstall drivers is to go into the Device Manager, select the FTDI cable and uninstall the drivers. I purchased this FTDI cable from Amazon 3 weeks ago and I've never had any problems with it. When I plugged it into the USB port, Windows 10 automatically installed the drivers and I've never had any problems with it. I have been a computer technician for many years so if you have any problems or questions, please feel free to ask.

I think what the OP is concerned with is those that purchased an FTDI cable in good faith that turns out to have a fake FTDI chip in it. Recent FTDI drivers disable these fake cablex. He's asking for a way to cancel out the change made to the cable so it's usable again.

My understanding is that the driver that caused problems was pulled. Has anyone hit this issue this calendar year where a driver update broke a ftdi cable?
You should be able to move a ftdi cable to any port with the Windows 10 automatically installed drivers and it still works. My cable from valley-ent.com has had 0 problems on 10, and I never manually installed any drivers.

Supposedly, there is a recent FTDI driver update that will send nonsense data through a clone chip. An attempt to once again defeat cloned chips. This is within the last couple months. Mine is an RT systems cable, so I know it is good.

This just earlier in Feb, 2016 --
"For the second time, FTDI released a driver published to Windows Update..."
http://www.techrepublic.com/article/ftdi-abuses-windows-update-pushing-drive...
There was a hew-n-cry for FTDI to be stripped of their cert to sign drivers at the first bomb. Haven't heard so much on the most recent.

Oh, I sincerely apologize! Jerry, thank you for clarifying this issue and explaining the problem. I was not aware of the whole situation. I honestly hope I did not offend anyone. Jerry, when you said "recent FTDI Drivers disabled these fake cables" below, were you referring to the drivers on the FTDI Website?
In my humble opinion, the only way to solve the problem is to buy a known good FTDI cable. The one I purchased at Amazon works great and I've never had any problems with it. Please understand, I am not trying to offend anyone.

Hi, my name is Dan Jolley and I have been using Windows 10 64 bit for the last 4 months. I purchased the FTDI Cable from Amazon about 3 weeks ago, I plugged it into a USB port on my computer and Windows 10 automatically installed the drivers. After the drivers installed, I left the FTDI cable in the USB port and rebooted my computer. I have not had any problems using the FTDI cable with Chirp or the BaoFeng Programming software since then. Whatever USB port you plugged the FTDI cable into when the drivers were installed, you must continue to plug the FTDI cable into that same USB port for it to work.
If you plug the FTDI into a different USB port then that will create problems. If you don't want to use the Windows 10 drivers, you can go into the Device Manager and uninstall the current drivers. Before you do that, you can go to the FTDI Website and download the D2XX Drivers for Windows 10, they have both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions so you can select the correct one for the version of Windows 10 you are using. That way you will have the drivers ready to install after you uninstall the Windows 10 drivers. The FTDI Website with the D2XX Drivers is here: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm The current version for the Windows 10 FTDI D2XX Drivers is 2.12.14 and the current release date for those drivers is 02-02-2016. When you download the drivers they are in a ZIP format so you will have to unzip (extract) them first. The name of the zipped drivers is CDM v2.12.14 WHQL Certified. When you are in the Device Manager and start to install the FTDI D2XX drivers you downloaded, you will have to direct (browse) the driver installation to the folder where you unzipped the FTDI Drivers. I have never had to install the FTDI D2XX Drivers since I have never had any problems with the Windows 10 Drivers. But I am familiar with installing drivers, so if you have any questions please feel free to ask. I have been a computer technician for many years. I do not have a HAM license yet but i am working on it.
I apologize if I have mentioned something you already knew, I was just trying to give you as much information as I could to help you. I hope it helps!
Thank you,Dan Jolleyoldhippie1955@yahoo.com
