I purchased a BTECH uv-5x3 and also the USB cable to program from the computer. The CHIRP program does not recognize the USB cable and only gives me the COM3 option.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Yes. Your cable probably shows as a Prolific cable , under Device Manager. It is probably built with a fake chip. Go to www.miklor.com and download driver 3.2.0.0. This driver will work, as newer drivers will disable the chip.

Cesar,
Assuming you are using Windows, what does Device Manager show you about the programming cable? This guide should help. It was taken from a Windows 7 computer. Other Windows versions may be slightly different.

Assuming you purchased the PC03 programming cable from Baofeng Tech, Baofeng Tech sells only FTDI chip based programming cables. Do not install any Prolific device driver unless you programming cable was manufactured with a Prolific type USB-to-TTL chip. The Windows Device Manager should help you determine which type of chip is in your programming cable.
