[chirp_users] Support for BTECH, Juentai & Luiton radios
A friend of mine has purchased the first two radios in the list below and I have compared them as well.
With regards to the following radios:
BTECH: UV-2501 & UV-5001 Juentai: JT-6188 Luiton: LT-898UV
Will CHIRP be supporting these radios in the near future? I intend to buy the BTECH unit, whether it is supported by CHIRP or not. Anyone else out there have their own opinions of these radios and similar cousins?
73's Ray
The BTECH uv-5001 the audio is jumbled when I am driving and clear when in not.

Are you using an external antenna? If so, does it have a rounded bead at the end of the antenna? If you use a different radio, does it exhibit the same problem? An antenna moving thru the air will likely develop a static charge which will result in degraded audio. The purpose of the rounded tip is to discharge this static. Airplanes often have discharge wicks on the trailing edges to discharge static. At our club meeting recently, we had someone complain of the same problem. He changed his antenna to one that had a "coronal discharge" tip and it solved his audio problem.

Ray, CHIRP support for the UV2501/5001 is in progress.
At the risk of being off topic, here are references to your radio related questions: UV2501/5001 Review - http://www.miklor.com/COM/Review_UV2501-5001.php More detailed information - select the KT8900, JT6188, UV2501/5001 links at http://www.miklor.com
The specific cause of the audio concern is addressed at http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_Audio_8900.php It has been isolated, does not occur on all radios, there is a workaround, and the factory is aware of issue.

John, do you know of any video or audio recordings of this pulsing sound? I'm curious if it's the same thing some of us get on the hand helds when moving that sounds like a geiger counter crackling or ticking.

Hi Raymond,
You can follow the B-TECH driver development here:
http://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/3131
Jim & I worked out a script to dump radio's memory, so just wait for Jim to map the mem and make the driver.
I can do it, but has no radio available here to play with.
I'm focused on old commercial kenwoods that are very common here.

I can do it, but need the radio in hand to map it's mem and build a driver, buying one from here is not possible to me.
Any of you can arrange to make a crowdfund campaign to buy one of this radios and send it to me in Cuba; I will do the job ride away.
If you like the idea contact me for details, Cheers.

I live in the Camagüey city, about 100Km east of the province of Ciego de Avila, where Cayo Coco Key belongs.
If you like, drop me a direct email and we will arrange a meeting.
