[chirp_users] iCloud Drive?
I would like to save my files to iCloud Drive, but I can’t find a way to do this. I put a couple of files there and I can’t find iCloud Drive in the Open File system in Chirp. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Bilol WB4WTN
There is always help on the enternet. Type in search bar "how to save files to icloud" It has help there for sure. I know sometimes other people suggest how to do things and they don't always work. But I find the help from searches helps out.

Thanks for the reply, but I use iCloud Drive every day. My question is how to open a file in Chirp that’s I have put on iCloud Drive. File>Open in Chirp does not show the iCloud Drive. It’s a Chirp issue, not an iCloud Drive issue.

Random thoughts from an IT pro but non Mac user ...
- You haven't said what version of OS X you're using. From what I'm seeing, the integration is better in Yosemite than it was in previous versions.
- This page http://www.macworld.com/article/2838800/how-to-use-icloud-drive.html seems quite informative (but you've probably seen it already).
- I haven't looked at the source code of CHIRP but have found in other environments (on PC) that not all "open" dialogues are equal. Some programming environments use their own, which is similar to - but not identical to - the standard one in the operating system. (Certainly, the CHIRP "open" on my PC does look identical to the ones I see from Excel and Notepad++, but I don't know if that will be the case on the Mac.)
- The referenced MacWorld page does talk about a preference setting for Finder. Certainly worth checking that it's set correctly - especially if this isn't a global preference setting.
- I would anticipate that the problem is not in CHIRP per se. I'd suspect that it's either in the OS or is a built-in facility in the programming language environment that CHIRP is built with.
Probably nothing useful here, but one can hope. :-) Good luck.

Bill is the Icloud drive web based or does it install a software on the computer? Reason I'm asking is I use Google Drive, and when I open such as save as or open, itbshiwsbup under the drives folder to click in. If it is exclusive web based I do not believe there is a way to have CHIRP go to a web address. On Oct 24, 2015 8:47 PM, "Bill Cherepy" jcherepy@gmail.com wrote:

I guess I should have mentioned I am using a Mac. I see iCloud Drive as a folder in Finder and can move files to and from it as I do any other Folder.

I guess I’m not making myself clear. I can not SEE the iCloud Drive folder in Chirp when I click on File>Open. It is not listed. Dropbox and Google Drive are, but not iCloud Drive. So, the file format is not the problem. I’ve resorted to using Dropbox for now, so it’s not a big deal, but I would still like to use iCloud Drive.

Your iCloud Drive files live in Users/<username>/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~CloudDocs, however the easiest way to open a file in iCloud drive is probably to drag the file from a Finder window to the File>Open dialog in Chirp.

Depend on how you feel you should be aware of this part of the T&C for iCloud.
<quote> 1. License from You. Except for material we may license to you, Apple does not claim ownership of the materials and/or Content you submit or make available on the Service. However, by submitting or posting such Content on areas of the Service that are accessible by the public or other users with whom you consent to share such Content, *you grant Apple a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use, distribute, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, publicly perform and publicly display such Content on the Service solely for the purpose for which such Content was submitted or made available, without any compensation or obligation to you.* You agree that any Content submitted or posted by you shall be your sole responsibility, shall not infringe or violate the rights of any other party or violate any laws, contribute to or encourage infringing or otherwise unlawful conduct, or otherwise be obscene, objectionable, or in poor taste. By submitting or posting such Content on areas of the Service that are accessible by the public or other users, you are representing that you are the owner of such material and/or have all necessary rights, licenses, and authorization to distribute it. </quote>
Lets break out the key part

Do you want to allow iCloud to publish your files? Or to MODIFY them? I know I don't.
I would never use a cloud service for my files as some of them claim ownership of the files, or in this case claim they can MODIFY the file without my permission.

You left out:

Files you upload to non-public folders presumably don’t fall under the provision you quoted.

<quote> you grant Apple a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use, distribute, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, publicly perform and publicly display such Content on the Service solely for the purpose for which such Content was submitted or made available, without any compensation or obligation to you. </quote>
Do you want to allow iCloud to publish your files? Or to MODIFY them? I know I don't. I would never use a cloud service for my files as some of them claim ownership of the files, or in this case claim they can MODIFY the file without my permission.
You left out:
"by submitting or posting such Content on areas of the Service that are accessible by the public”
Files you upload to non-public folders presumably don’t fall under the provision you quoted.
