Simon,
There is an IC-7100 listed. My guess is that you do not have the latest daily build available. I'll bet you have v0.4.1 installed (which is over 3 years old).
This is most likely from installing CHIRP using the Ubuntu package manager instead of adding the CHIRP snapshot repository as shown on the CHIRP download page.
If this is what happened, then CHIRP must be completely uninstalled before installing per the instructions on the download page.

Thanks Jim - almost! it's running a July release... It seems it broke sometime around the recent Ubuntu upgrade:
sudo apt-get update produces: Err:8 http://ppa.launchpad.net/dansmith/chirp-snapshots/ubuntu zesty/main amd64 Packages 404 Not Found
and - W: The repository 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/dansmith/chirp-snapshots/ubuntu zesty Release' does not have a Release file. N: Data from such a repository can't be authenticated and is therefore potentially dangerous to use. N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details. E: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/dansmith/chirp-snapshots/ubuntu/dists/zesty/main/bi... 404 Not Found E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Thanks,
Simon R.
