[chirp_users] New Daily Build
Greetings,
A new daily build of CHIRP is available. This includes changes made directly to the tree yesterday, and may include additional features, bug fixes, and/or bugs. If you are interested in trying it, grab it from the following location:
http://trac.chirp.danplanet.com/chirp_daily/daily-20121226
A list of the changes included in this build (since the last daily) follows:
Changes for Build #134 [Dan Smith dsmith@danplanet.com] [uv5r] Update tests image for change made in #370
Related to #370
[Dan Smith dsmith@danplanet.com] [tests] Fix test logic to tolerate IC-Q7's implicit AM bands Related to #297
[Jim Unroe rock.unroe@gmail.com] [icq7] Various stability fixes
Fix: - Processing an image with invalid tone values - Initializing memory values before a set operation - Supporting frequencies below 30MHz
Fixes #297
I'm a fairly new owner of the Baofeng UV-5R and programing cable...due to the everyday additions to the Chirp programing, How long must I wait until the right one comes along to use. This has become so confusing I don't know where to begin. I have had a UV-5R for well over a month now and haven't programmed it as I don't where or which one to start with. I think maybe I should just sell it and not have to wonder about it.

You don't need to wait...just download the most recent daily build and have at it!
Unlike the major software companies, who release software upgrades every third blue moon, volunteer teams who do projects like CHIRP will release a new build whenever a few new changes are made--usually someone's waiting for those changes. So there's no danger in downloading and installing the newest build. Tomorrow's build may have changes that don't pertain to the UV-5R--remember, CHIRP supports a number of different radios. If that's the case, don't worry about it. If the build you have works for your rig, then you're good to go. No need to upgrade unless you see that a new build has an irresistible new feature.

Hugh, I would recommend working with the latest Daily Build. The latest version works great and the next build will only enhance this one. John K3NXU

Hugh,
Please review the message posted by Bob and others a few days ago. It explains how to use the ChirpliveCD. If you follow his instructions you will get a bootable CD and you will be able to connect your PC to your UV-R5 and program it.
These are Bob's instructions.
Download the .exe version of the liveCD. Once downloaded, double click on the file. After a minute or so, a window will open. Click OK in that window, your CD tray will open and you will be prompted to insert a blank CD. Insert the blank CD, close the tray and click OK on the popup. It will burn the image to CD for you. Then simply reboot your computer to the CD.
The exe version is fully self-contained. It requires no additional software to make it work. The iso version on the other hand does require additional software. So again, if you are a Windows user and in doubt, download the Chirp_liveCD_23Dec12_32bit.exe file.
Hugh,
Don't worry about the daily versions for the moment as the chirpliveCD version will work just fine. Using the CD gives you a head start on getting your radio programmed. Once you have your radio working you can relax and look back through the posts and figure out how to get chirp installed and working directly from your PC.
The daily builds have some enhancements that may or may not affect your radio but right now any build you download will work with your radio.
Don't give up Hugh, you can do it and there are plenty of people here that can help you.
