[chirp_users] TYT TH-9800 Not Uploading, "no attribute 'setTimeout'"
Hooked my new quad-band TH-9800 up to my Linux laptop, today. Used the cable supplied with the radio. Was able to download from the radio without a problem. After setting up all the repeaters, etc. I wanted, tried to upload. Received an error message that said: Failed to communicate with the radio. 'Serial' object has no attribute 'setTimeout'
OS: Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia x86_64 Kernel: 4.13.0-41-generic DE: Cinnamon 3.6.7 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 (2) @ 1.667GHz GPU: Intel 965GM Memory: 1533MiB / 1984MiB GTK 2.24.30 PyGTK 2.24.0 Python 2.7.12 CHIRP daily-20160110

You’re using a CHIRP version from 2016/01/10. I think that you should first upgrade to the latest version, and try again.

Okay. I installed the repository and updated CHIRP, but evidently it didn't take or didn't update the shortcuts in my menu. I'll try again. Thanks!

Had to uninstall the distro-based CHIRP and reinstall the chirp-daily from the danplanet repository. Works great, now!

did you check you driver to make sure it has not updated? 3.2.0.0 is the one you want to run.
